Peacock

Peacock originals, movies and live events.

Total Apex Take

Peacock proved live sports can make a streaming service relevant overnight, then immediately lost its biggest wrestling draw to a rival — a reminder of how fragile that strategy is.

Peacock's exclusive NFL Wild Card streaming game in January 2024 became one of the most-streamed live events in U.S. history at the time, validating NBCUniversal's bet on sports exclusivity as Peacock's core differentiator, and WWE content including premium live events has continued to anchor subscriber retention. But that sports-first strategy took a real hit when WWE's flagship Raw moved to Netflix starting in 2025, pulling away a reliable weekly draw even as Peacock retained other WWE programming and premium events.

Our take is that Peacock's entire value proposition is still correctly built around live events Americans actually watch together — the Olympics, NFL games, WWE pay-per-views — rather than trying to out-produce Netflix or Max on prestige scripted originals, and that's a smart lane for a service that will never win a budget war. Losing Raw to Netflix stings, but it also clarifies that Peacock's job is to be the place for the biggest live moments, not a general content destination.

The thing to watch is Comcast's planned spin-off of its cable networks into a separate company (Versant) — Peacock is staying with the core NBCUniversal/Comcast business, which should mean continued investment, but how sports rights get prioritized financially post-split is still an open question.

About Peacock

Peacock is NBCUniversal's streaming service, launching for Comcast customers in April 2020 before a wider national rollout in July 2020. It carries NBC's current television lineup, a deep library of past NBCUniversal shows and films, and live sports coverage including select NFL games, Premier League soccer, and Olympics coverage for U.S. audiences.
