All Destiny 2 Exotic Weapons Getting Catalysts and Multiple Artifacts Revealed
Today’s Destiny 2 Dev Insight article was a hefty one. It covered most changes coming to weapons, artifacts, and gear, focusing on the Monument of Triumph update. As a result, one article is not enough to cover everything. If you want to see all the sandbox changes, have a look at our article covering that. Otherwise, here is everything you need to know about the changes.
Destiny 2: Weapon Tier Upgrading

Weapon Tier upgrading does exactly as it says. Player can upgrade their lower-tier weapons to tier 5. If you got that god roll Uncivil Discourse, but is it tier 2? Worry not, you can turn it into a tier 5 weapon. It gains everything except for the additional perks. If you want to have a multi-perk setup, you will need to earn the higher-tier version of the weapon. Upgrading tiers does come at a cost. Based on the image in the article, it will cost glimmer, Ascendant Alloys, and Enhancement Prisms.
Destiny 2: Exotic Catalysts
Right now in Destiny 2, not every Exotic has a catalyst. With the Monument of Triumph update, every exotic is getting a catalyst to increase its power fantasy. Some of the teased catalysts are:
- Chaperone – Triple Tap
- Parasite – Envious Arsenal
- Tarrabah – Ambitious Assassin
Some pre-existing catalysts are getting additional perks:
- Crimson – To the Pain
- Merciless – Heal Clip
In total, we are getting 25 catalysts and 9 perks added to existing catalysts that only granted weapon stats.
Destiny 2: Weapon Crafting
Crafted weapons have fallen behind their tiered counterparts since the release of the Edge of the Fate. The Monument of Triumph update will see crafted weapons brought up to par. How it works:
- All crafted legendary weapons get weapon tiering.
- At Gear Tier 3, you unlock Enhanced Weapon Mods
- At Gear Tier 5, you unlock cosmetics
- All other tiers correspond to unlocking other Enhanced components at the crafting table
- At Weapon level 11, you can upgrade to Tier 2 and gain access to Enhanced Traits
- Weapon level 25 unlocks Gear Tier 4 and Enhanced Components
- Weapon level 30 unlocks Gear Tier 5 and Enhanced Origin Traits
Most of the crafted raid weapons have gotten additional perks to fit the new sandbox. Adept weapons will also become a part of the Gear Tiering, and will remain slightly better than their non-Adept counterparts.
Destiny 2: The Artifact Overhaul

There are a handful of significant changes happening to the Artifact:
- Removal of Champion Mods
- Removal of the Refunding
- Locking the Artifact for Competitive and Trials modes
- Artifacts added to loadouts
- Multiple Artifacts with numerous perk options
Yes, you read that correctly. There will be numerous returning Artifacts that allow players the opportunity to mix and match. While we do not know all of the perks, Bungie teased some of them. A couple of examples:
- Radiant on precision hits
- 15% Weaken from Solar Abilities
- Radiant Solar Weapon Damage causing Ignitions
- Solo Operative, and more
The current Artifact is getting six new artifact perks:
- Fierce Proxemics
- Finisher final blows grant grenade and melee energy.
- Blinding Jolts
- Final blows on jolted combatants blind nearby combatants
- Tazer Tag
- Arc-powered melee hits jolt combatants and deal further damage for a short duration.
