Daily Devotional Wednesday Wisdom | September 23, 2026
It’s Wednesday and time for your daily devotional. Psalm 127, a Song of Degrees, is attributed to David “for Solomon.” It’s deeply personal, from a father to his son, urging him to look to God for success in all areas of his life. In today’s daily devotional, parents should pass down wisdom to their children so that succeeding generations will know they can’t make it without God.
Trust God for Success
Verse 1 says, “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” The first line is addressed to a son tasked with building the Lord’s house. This honor was given to Solomon by God, as David originally desired to build God’s temple. Solomon would also need to build his own house and lead it in the fear of the Lord.
No doubt, David passed down wisdom gained from mistakes as a father and king. Solomon would be responsible for a city from which to rule his kingdom. Jerusalem would be safe because God would keep it safe, not by ten thousand watchmen on their posts. In your daily devotional, dedicate all your endeavors to God; trust Him to make them successful.
Turn It Over to God
David warns Solomon in verse 2 of the futility of worried thoughts and fruitless actions: “It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.” It’s man’s nature to try to fix things in the flesh, but God invites you to cast your cares upon Him. Why lose sleep and toil endlessly when God offers you rest?
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” In this daily devotional, rather than worrying all night, which doesn’t resolve anything, give it to God and go to sleep.
God’s Blessings of Legacy
David affirms that every good gift comes from the Lord. Verse 3 says, “Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” Children are God’s blessings; no one produces them by their own skill or ability. They’re by God’s strength. Solomon’s children would be his heritage, carrying on the fruit of his labor and continuing his legacy.
Children are a reward, for they bring joy. Verse 4 compares them to “arrows in the hand of a mighty man,” for as arrows are tools of protection for warriors, children protect a family’s continuance and legacy. In your daily devotional, thank God for your children, and teach them to love God and obey His commandments.
A Full Quiver
In verse 5, David speaks of the blessing of many children: “Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.” When starting young there’s the potential of bearing many children. In ancient times, the city gate was the place of business and justice, those with many sons had greater support. In this daily devotional, God’s blessings give increase, as children add connection, purpose, and unconditional love to your life.
Trust God in All Your Endeavos
In Wednesday’s daily devotional, trusting God means putting Him first in all your endeavors, including establishing a home, fulfilling your purpose, and raising children to have successful lives. Trusting in your own strength will produce failure, for you can’t make it without God.
