Destiny 2 Live Service Updates Coming to A Close June 9th
Destiny 2 has been in a lull for quite some time. After the delays to Shadow and Order, the community has not known what direction the game would take. Today, we know the answer to that. The June 9th update will be the last live-service update for Destiny 2. Bungie released an article today, announcing the end of Destiny 2 updates and more for what is coming in the last update.
The Final Destiny 2 Update
June 9th is the final live-service update for Destiny 2. That means we will not be getting any more campaigns, raids, dungeons, or much more for Destiny 2. They will turn their focus to other games under the Bungie umbrella. That could indicate a potential Destiny 3 in the pipeline. However, that is merely an assumption; there is no concrete information on Destiny 3 at the moment.
Destiny 2: Monument of Triumph

The Monument of Triumph will launch on June 9th. It will be a way for all players to celebrate Destiny 2 in its entirety. Legendary Marks will return along with free armor ornaments, accessories, weapon engrams, and more. There will be some additional story beats and lore for players to dive into with Monument of Triumph. More information about the Monument of Triumph will come in future blog posts and TWIDs.
The Return of the Director
The release of Edge of Fate saw Destiny 2 move away from the Director as the Hub. The Portal took its place. With the June 9th update, the Director of the Hub returns. The Portal will still be available, but will be a part of the Director page.
Pantheon 2.0 Live With the Update
Bungie had already confirmed Pantheon 2.0 before. The article gave more information on how it will work. Pantheon 2.0 will be a permanent addition to Destiny 2, allowing players to enjoy it at any point. The important facets for the Pantheon are:
- June 9th: The first slate of bosses becomes available, with two activities each featuring a unique roster of bosses.
- June 13th: What we’re calling the gauntlet, the full line-up of boss encounters in a single activity.
- June 16th: Encounter rotations begin; players can attempt featured single-boss encounters for rewards.
Raids, Dungeons, Sandbox, Destinations, and More

All raids and dungeons in Destiny 2 will get new weapons and armor to fit into the tier system. Crafted weapons will have their own upgrade path for tiers. Weekly Featured Raids and Dungeons are back as well.
Destination weapons and armor are also getting a refresh to be a part of the tiered system. Distortions are an addition to planets, which will provide unique rewards for players.

The End of an Era
While there is a whole host of new content coming with the update, the news is sombre. The end of Destiny 2 brings the end of an era of gaming that has hooked everyone. No longer will the excitement of those Destiny World’s First Race exist. There is no more grinding for a weapon, so you have it for the next piece of content. The story ends, right as it was getting started. There may be a Destiny 3 in the future, but for now, we say goodbye to Destiny 2.
