Teamfight Tactics Set 17 Pyke Hero Augment: Cashing in the Wins

Space Gods Set 17 for Teamfight Tactics

With the addition of three hero augments in patch 17.2, there are now five two-cost hero augments. Pyke is the first of the five two-cost hero augments we will look at for Teamfight Tactics Set 17. If you get Pyke rolling, he can become an unstoppable force. The extra gold gained can help to cap out your board in the later stages.

Pyke Hero Augment

Pyke’s spell with the hero augment is similar to his ultimate from League of Legends. Pyke targets the enemy with the lowest health within two hexes. He draws an X on the unit, dealing damage to the target and anyone in the area. If the target dies to cast, Pyke recasts onto another target with reduced damage. The spell deals additional damage to tanks. Passively, Pyke’s team can generate gold on takedowns. If Pyke lands the final blow, the gold chance increases. At three stars, a final blow from Pyke will grant gold.

Approach The Augment

Early Game

  • Play for a win-streak where possible
  • Slam Items if win-streaking
    • Aim for BIS on Pyke
  • Psionic early if you have the Target-lock Optics item.
  • Leveling early is good to maintain a win streak.

Mid Game

  • Go to level six and look for two-star Pyke
    • Two-star Gragas is also good, but not necessary
  • Slow roll at level 6 for three-star Pyke and Gragas
    • Skip Gragas if you do not have multiple copies

Late Game

  • Look for additional Psionic units and Voyagers to cap out the board
  • Play a Brawler, ideally Tahm Kench if you have three-star Gragas

The Final Board

  • Lissandra
  • Gragas
  • Meepsie
  • Pyke
  • Karma
  • Master Yi
  • Tahm Kench
  • Sona

Itemization

Pyke

Pyke’s BIS items are Infinity Edge and Hand of Justice. They will help Pyke secure kills and have some sustain. If you do not have a strong Psionic Item for Pyke, like Target-lock Optics or Malware Matrix, Edge of Night is the best third item.

Gragas

Prioritize utility tank items such as Evenshroud and Sunfire Cape. Sunfire Cape is less important since you have Karma that can use anti-heal items. However, you do not have a good Sunder user outside of your frontline. Any other tank items will work. Crownguard is a good option to consider.

Karma/Sona

Give Karma or Sona any AP items. Both can use Morellonomicon or Red Buff if need be. Synthetic Implants work for both Karma and Sona.

Master Yi

Master Yi will take any leftover fighter items. He is less important for this composition, but is a good option if you have the items available.

Positioning Tips

Ideally, position Gragas and Pyke on the same side for the Sunder effect. You want to try to avoid the opponent’s primary tank to prevent Pyke from getting stuck on it. Karma can help Pyke burst down the frontline. If possible, get Pyke to target the backline first. Even if it is a low-cost unit, one kill can chain into more.

Best Space Gods

Varus or Kayle are the best Space Gods for this composition. That will apply to all hero augments. Ahri is okay as well, if she gives you rerolls. Varus’s additional duplicators can guarantee you hit your units, and his boon increases your team strength. Kayle can ensure you get the items you want, and her boon provides combat power.

Additional Tips

Pyke is not reliant on having the BIS Psionic item, but it will increase his power. The difference between Target-lock Optics Pyke and not could change your position from the bottom four to the top four. Hitting three-star Pyke as early as possible can help you snowball towards a victory. The combination of the extra combat power and gold allows you to reach higher levels. Play Viktor as your fourth Psionic until you find Sona. Once you find her, put her in immediately. Encounters with either rerolls, duplicators, or component anvils are good options.
