Teamfight Tactics Set 17 Four Cost Champions: The Important Carries
The newest Teamfight Tactics set, Space Gods, has been on the Public Beta Environment. We have spent some time playing the new set and wanted to give extra details on all the new units in Set 17. The four-cost champions, much like other sets, will feature in most compositions. An early 4-cost champion can shift your game plan. Fast-8 compositions are generally the easiest to play in any set, and Set 17 is no different.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 Four-cost Tanks

There have been plenty of discussions surrounding the viability of four-cost tanks. There are four in total, but one is a pseudo-tank.
Nunu & Willump
Traits: Stargazer and Vanguard
Nunu & Willump is a flexible tank in Set 17. He is often the Vanguard of choice when paired with other Vanguards. His CC and natural tankiness make him a strong option. Positioning with Nunu & Willump is vital to guarantee his ability to land on any carries.
Rammus
Traits: Meeple and Bastion
Rammus is the other natural tank in Set 17. Similar to Nunu & Willump, Rammus is the pivotal tank for any boards that play around Meeple or Bastion. He also shares traits with Poppy, making them a natural pairing in Meeple compositions.
Tahm Kench
Traits: Oracle and Brawler
Tahm Kench is a strange tank in Set 17. He lacks the same durability as the aforementioned tanks, but he can still provide value. His unique trait, Oracle, grants additional resources. Often, when you are looking for your last unit to two-star a high-tier unit, he will provide. An early Tahm Kench can propel your mid-game.
The Mighty Mech
Traits: Mecha and Voyager
The Mighty Mech is naturally a tank, but he gets played differently. His Mecha version utilizes more fighter items than tank items to dominate the frontline. His ability does not change drastically between his two forms. His Mecha version only features in Mecha-centric compositions.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 Four-cost Melee Carries
There are only two fighter-style four-cost champions. However, both of them have shone during the PBE.
Riven
Traits: Timebreaker and Rogue
Riven is an interesting unit in Set 17. Her ability damage changes based on which damage type she has more of. That allows her to utilize both AP and AD fighter items. Players have prioritized the core items of Bloodthrister, Sterak’s Gage, and Titan’s Resolve for her on the PBE. She is a great fighter to slot into compositions as long as you have Rogue in as well.
Master Yi
Traits: Psionic and Marauder
Master Yi, in the right setups, has torn through boards. He is the ideal unit for the N.O.V.A. emblem. He has decent flexibility with Psionic and Marauder as his traits. Not many boards can contend with the itemized duo of Master Yi and Fiora.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 Four-cost Casters

Set 17 has four four-cost casters. Three of them are AP-based, but all want different core items.
Aurelion Sol
Traits: Mecha and Conduit
Aurelion Sol is a unique unit. Much like The Mighty Mech, Aurelion Sol has two forms. His base form has him shooting a laser similar to his Q from League of Legends. In Mecha form, Aurelion Sol transforms into a ship that flies around the backline, shooting out projectiles. He is only in this form in Mecha-centric compositions. He does not appear elsewhere at the moment, with Bard being a more flexible Conduit unit.
Corki
Traits: Meeple and Fateweaver
Corki needs Fateweaver to be an effective carry. He also prefers pure damage to burst through frontlines as quickly as possible. You do not need Spear of Shojin/Blue Buff on him. He is a Fateweaver unit, and already has Precision built into his kit. Corki also needs Meeple to increase his value.
Karma
Traits: Dark Star and Voyager
Karma is more of a supportive AP Caster who can help clean up a fight. Her ability allows her to affect multiple targets. That makes items like Void Staff and Morellonomicon perfect for her. She can still dish out decent damage and has, on numerous occasions, clutched up in fights. Karma fits in well with many compositions, given her Dark Star and Voyager traits.
Nami
Traits: Space Groove and Replicator
Nami has been on the fringe for most players on PBE. She is a more niche unit due to her itemization, and the best time to play her in games. There are not many units in set 17 that will effectively carry her items. The best unit for her items turns out to be Gwen. Nami needs her Replicator trait active to be an effective unit.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 Four-cost Marksmen
Of the four-cost Marksmen units, only LeBlanc is AP.
Kindred
Traits: N.O.V.A. and Challenger
Kindred has been one of the premier backline carries so far in Set 17. Of the two AD Marksmen, Kindred has seen more playtime. They are the capstone to most N.O.V.A compositions. If you have an itemized Kindred with 5 N.O.V.A, select them. Kindred will almost always feature alongside Akali. That means you do not need to build Infinity Edge for them.
LeBlanc
Traits: Arbiter and Shepherd
LeBlanc requires certain conditions to play her. She wants an Arbiter that grants her additional Ability Power. Without it, she will not have the same strength as the other four-cost units. She is often paired with Karma as a duo carry. In some situations, you can transfer LeBlanc items onto Vex for the ultimate late-game cap.
Xayah
Traits: Stargazer and Sniper
Xayah is in an awkward state at the end of the PBE. There are not many compositions that feature her as the primary carry. She is also not the best item carrier for Jhin. Jhin prefers to have pure damage instead of a Guinsoo’s Rageblade. Xayah needs Rageblade to be effective. However, she can be flexible in any Sniper compositions.
