Teamfight Tactics Set 17 Three Cost Champions: A Unique Threat
The newest Teamfight Tactics set, Space Gods, has been on the Public Beta Environment. We have spent some time playing the new set and wanted to give extra details on all the new units in Set 17. The three-cost champions can make or break your success this set. Almost all of the three cost champions in this set are playable in reroll compositions. They also feature a threat-like champion in Rhaast.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 Three-cost Tanks

For Set 17, the dev team wanted to have powerful three-cost tanks. For the most part, a three-star three-cost tank will get more value than the 4-cost tanks.
Illaoi
Traits: Anima, Shepherd, and Vanguard
An early Illaoi is one of two units you need early to get Anima kick-started. She is one of two three-cost Anima units alongside Aurora. Illaoi’s other traits: Shepherd and Vanguard make her a relatively flexible tank for the late-game
Maokai
Traits: N.O.V.A. and Brawler
Maokai is another flexible tank thanks to his traits. N.O.V.A is pairable with any other unit for value. Brawler is not the most flexible tank trait, but it pairs well with Tahm Kench. His N.O.V.A selector effect is a decent standard option.
Ornn
Traits: Space Groove and Bastion
Ornn is one of the best three-cost tanks in the early game. He always crafts himself an item at the start of combat. He can be key to winning streaks. His ability itself is weak, given his passive. However, he has decent flexibility with Bastion. Ornn is also ideal for Rhaast compositions since Space Groove procs with one unit.
Rhaast
Traits: Redeemer
Rhaast is a threat-like unit. He only has a unique trait. Rhaast grants his team additional resistances and attack speed based on the number of non-unique traits active. If you have ever played a Bronze For Life Augment, it has a similar function. The amount of stats given increases based on Rhaast’s star level. That makes him ideal with three-cost reroll compositions that either need a tank or have multiple traits active. Rhaast appears in many compositions, so getting a 3-star Rhaast is improbable in most games.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 Three-cost Melee Carries
There are three fighter-style three-cost champions. Fizz and Diana are AP-based. Urgot has a two-hex range, but is still a fighter.
Diana
Traits: Arbiter and Challenger
Diana is one of the least flexible three-cost champions. She will rarely appear in compositions where she is not the carry. You will also need more specific conditions for her. Certain Arbiter buffs will increase her potency. If you can give her max health, she will become an unkillable damage threat. Diana needs Guinsoo’s Rageblade to function effectively.
Fizz
Traits: Meeple and Rogue
Fizz can be a frustrating unit to deal with. He has a low mana cost and dashes constantly. He has some flexibility but is also one of the most dominant three-cost three-star units. He, alongside Kai’Sa, has been a terror on the PBE.
Urgot
Traits: Mecha, Brawler, Marauder
Urgot is one of three Mecha champions. Each Mecha champion has two forms: base and mech. Each form has a different ability, with the mech form taking up two board slots. Urgot’s mech form turns him into a two-hex range artillery. He is one of the only three-cost champions not included in a reroll. He can be a decent item holder early for fighter items.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 Three-cost Casters

There are a bunch of caster units in the three-cost space. Miss Fortune can be a caster unit based on the type of Miss Fortune that you choose (more on this later).
Aurora
Traits: Anima and Voyager
Much like Illaoi, an early Aurora can set players up for Anima. As a Voyager, she can be relatively flexible. However, players often prioritize other Voyagers over her. There is an Anima reroll composition that rose towards the end of the PBE.
Kai’Sa
Traits: Dark Star and Rogue
Under the right conditions, Kai’Sa can shred through boards. She pairs well with Fizz for a three-cost reroll. However, outside of that composition, she rarely features.
Lulu
Traits: Stargazer and Replicator
Lulu is a unique unit. Her spell changes based on the Stargazer for that game. If you want to get the maximum out of Lulu reroll, play it when it is either the Medallion or Fountain Stargazer. Medallion grants additional damage amp for each three-star unit, while Fountain Lulu prints gold.
Miss Fortune
Traits: Gun Goddess
Miss Fortune’s trait is unique. When you field Miss Fortune, you can choose between three forms: Challenger, Conduit, and Replicator. Each form changes her ability and grants her that trait. Conduit and Replicator Miss Fortune are AD casters. Conduit Miss Fortune duo carries with Viktor, while she is the predominant carry as a Replicator in current PBE compositions.
Samira
Traits: Space Groove and Sniper
Samira is another AD Caster. However, she has a twist. Every time someone on her team knocks up an enemy, her passive triggers. Her passive deals additional damage to these targets. That means Samira wants as many champions with a knockup as possible.
Viktor
Traits: Psionic and Conduit
Viktor is one of the more narrow Psionic units. While Conduit is a relatively flexible trait, there are better units with it. However, he is powerful in the right Conduit setup. Viktor and Miss Fortune are a powerful duo. Viktor is best with the Drone Uplink Psionic item. He is playable without it. Viktor prefers pure damage items due to Conduit.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 Three-cost Marksmen
There is only one Marksmen three-cost champion. That is Miss Fortune, who will not always be in this role, as previously mentioned.
Miss Fortune
Traits: Gun Goddess
Challenger Miss Fortune is the weakest of the three forms on PBE. There are more flexible challengers than her. If you get an early Miss Fortune, consider a Conduit or Replicator line. There might be Challenger Miss Fortune compositions as the set progresses.
