Teamfight Tactics Set 17 One Cost Champions: Setting Up Victory
The newest Teamfight Tactics set, Space Gods, has been on the Public Beta Environment. We have spent some time playing the new set and wanted to give extra details on all the new units in Set 17. First up are the one-cost champions. Most of these champions will not end up on your final boards. However, they play a pivotal role in Stage 2.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 One-cost Tanks

There are six one-cost tanks. Each one has a one-cost tank trait pair.
Aatrox
Traits: N.O.V.A and Bastion
Aatrox is a traditional one-cost tank. His ability is nothing to write home about. Most of his power comes from N.O.V.A. The Shred and Sunder he provides his team at six seconds makes him a valuable addition to most compositions. Aatrox is one of six units with a Hero Augment in this set.
Cho’Gath
Traits: Dark Star and Brawler
Cho’Gath is a scaling HP tank. Every takedown grants him HP, with final blows granting extra. He can become a menace in the late-game if you get him rolling. He pairs well with Lissandra for the two Dark Star opener.
Leona
Traits: Arbiter and Vanguard
In previous sets, Leona has been a flexible tank. However, in Set 17, she will only appear in Arbiter-centric or Vanguard-centric compositions.
Nasus
Traits: Space Groove and Vanguard
Nasus is one of the strongest two-star one-cost tanks in the early game. His having the same traits as Blitzcrank could mean we see him in late-game compositions. Nasus is one of six units with a Hero Augment.
Poppy
Traits: Meeple and Bastion
Poppy is an okay tank. At two stars, she might help Stage 2, but she is not as strong as the rest. Much like Nasus, Poppy will appear on late-game boards. She has the same traits as Rammus. Poppy becomes a ranged champion with her Hero Augment.
Rek’Sai
Traits: Primordian and Brawler
An early Rek’Sai can help in Stage 2. Having three Primordian early can do one of two things. Either you can play the Primordian reroll, or use the extra resources to play fast eight compositions.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 One-cost Melee Carries
The two one-cost melee carries have the same class trait, meaning they can pair well in the early game.
Briar
Traits: Anima, Primordian, Rogue
Briar is important for her two Origin traits. She is necessary for three Anima or Primordian to get them online as soon as possible. Briar and Talon pair can carry Stage 2 and some Stage 3 fights.
Talon
Traits: Stargazer and Rogue
An itemized two-star Talon can carry the early stages. He does need Rogue to reach his potential. The Bleed stacks can melt a team.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 One-cost Casters
There are four one-cost casters. Only one of the four is AD-based. Lissandra and Veigar are the only units with that share a trait.
Ezreal
Traits: Timebreaker and Sniper
Ezreal is the AD Caster version of Cho’Gath. The only difference is that Ezreal only scales with Takedowns. If you get a Milio or Pantheon early, play Ezreal with them. You can play Ezreal as a reroll champion given his scaling.
Lissandra
Traits: Dark Star, Shepherd, and Replicator
Lissandra is an unimpressive AP Caster. A two-star Lissandra is not a guarantee for fight wins in Stage 2. Her pairing with Cho’Gath for Dark Star can help early game boards. As a three-trait one-cost unit, she will likely lack power.
Twisted Fate
Traits: Stargazer and Fateweaver
Twisted Fate needs Faterweaver to be effective. The increased luck odds on his ability increase his total damage. Three-star Twisted Fate can print a gold if he rolls a 9. Because of Fateweaver, Twisted Fate does not need Jeweled Gauntlet for his ability to crit.
Veigar
Traits: Meeple and Replicator
Veigar openers need to have another Replicator to make him effective. Given his lack of trait synergy and being a one-cast, he will rarely appear on late-game boards. Meeple has eight units in total, and Veigar will usually be the one you drop.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 One-cost Marksmen

There are only two one-cost Marksmen in Set 17. Both have synergies with other one-cost tanks.
Caitlyn
Traits: N.O.V.A. and Fateweaver
Caitlyn is a manaless champion in Set 17. She wants Guinsoo’s Rageblade to increase her damage output. Early N.O.V.A openers with Aatrox can be powerful. She has some late-game use cases because she is a N.O.V.A. Much like Twisted Fate, you will need Fateweaver to increase her total damage, but you do not need Infinity Edge for spell crit.
Teemo
Traits: Space Groove and Shepherd
Teemo is in a weird spot in Set 17. He is not the most dominant early game unit. No other unit in the set uses his itemization. As a result, he is rarely your item carrier for other units. You might see him in some Space Groove and Shepherd boards in the late-game.
