It’s Thursday and time for your daily devotional. Romans 15 continues to remind believers to esteem others highly. Without a renewed mind, it’s easy to criticize people who do things differently than you. In today’s daily devotional, God commands us to love others. Don’t listen to critical spirits; rebuke them in Jesus’ name, and walk in joy.
Be Like-Minded Towards Others
Paul begins with a bold proclamation in verse 1: “We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak.” When you’re spiritually mature, you help lift others up, not tear them down. Those who are only interested in pleasing themselves aren’t Christ-like, for He came to earth to minister to us, not live for Himself.
Even Scripture written in ages past is for our learning today. Through it, God wants to teach us patience, compassion, and like-mindedness toward others. In your daily devotional, receive others as Christ has received you.
Hope in God
Jesus was sent to the Jews, confirming God’s promises to them, and to Gentiles, extending God’s mercy to all. Verse 10 says, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.” They are included in God’s plan: Galatians 3:14 confirms that “the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ.” They also receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Therefore, Gentiles who come to God’s Light will be embraced and accepted. Isaiah prophesied that Christ “shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.” In this daily devotional, the God of hope fills both Jew and Gentile with peace, joy, and the Holy Ghost.
Give Grace to Others
Paul affirms that they’re filled with God’s goodness and knowledge, yet he tells them to be mindful of giving grace to others. Paul acknowledges the grace of God in his life that has laid a foundation for the Gentiles. Zealous toward his people and his Jewish heritage, he’s called by God to minister the gospel to Gentiles. After winning them to Christ, he makes them an acceptable offering to God, as a priest would.
Paul didn’t slack on his assignment but preached Christ in uncharted Gentile territories. In verse 18, he says, “Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.” In your daily devotional, if God assigns you to a certain group, lead them to Christ in joy and offer them up to God.
Have Love and Tenderness
Because of Paul’s missionary trips, he hadn’t visited Rome but looked forward to stopping again. However, he would first travel to Jerusalem to give an offering to the poor saints there. He asks for their prayers because of the Jews who don’t believe, as they were responsible for many attacks against him.
Desiring to bless the saints in Jerusalem, he would risk his own life to visit them. Out of his love for them, he longs to bring them relief. In this daily devotional, who has God given you grace to minister to? Don’t leave them waiting; step out in faith.
Fulfill Your Purpose With Joy
Paul anticipates great joy at seeing the Roman believers; he knows he and every soul will be refreshed. After finishing up a fourteen-year missionary tour of the East where he’d proclaimed Christ’s name to the Gentiles, he’d take an offering to Jerusalem. Lastly, he’d visit Rome. In today’s daily devotional, Christ gives you purpose; it’s up to you to fulfill it with joy.
