Happy Monday! It’s time for your daily devotional. What a blessing to have the Songs of Ascent that the Israelites sang on their pilgrimages to Jerusalem three times a year. Some were inspired by challenging events that were opportunities for God to show His power. In today’s daily devotional, God’s presence is your protection and safety.
Trust in the Lord
Some scholars believe Psalm 125 was composed to encourage those who’d returned to Jerusalem from Babylonian captivity. Verse 1 declares, “They that trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.” Just as Mt. Zion, God’s people cannot be removed from His presence. Mt. Zion represents the safety and security of those who abide in Him. In your daily devotional, just as Mt. Zion can’t be moved, neither can you, for you dwell in God’s house forever.
Symbol of Strength
Verse 2 proclaims, “As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.” Seven mountains surround Jerusalem, forming natural fortresses and vantage points in wartime. Mount Zion is a symbol of strength, beauty, and God Almighty. Jerusalem was called Mt. Zion, and God placed His name there. In this daily devotional, you’re safe in God’s stronghold of protection.
God is Judge
In verse 3, God doesn’t leave the righteous in unrighteous hands: “For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.” God won’t allow the wicked to lord over His people forever, lest the righteous fall into iniquity. This speaks of the sovereignty of God, who can put one down and set up another.
God is Judge of the earth, and even those who don’t serve Him are subject to His righteous judgment. Psalm 96:13 says, “He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness.” In this daily devotional, God’s judgment day is set. Will you be ready?
God is Good to All
The psalmist directs his prayer to God in verse 4: “Do good, O Lord, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.” He prays that God would fulfill His covenant of blessing in Deuteronomy 28:1-16 to the faithful. Psalm 18:25 says that with the upright, God shows Himself upright. His goodness is revealed in Romans 5:8: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” In your daily devotional, God’s goodness is everlasting.
God’s Goodness Never Fails
Verse 5 says, “As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the Lord shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel.” Those who rebel against God are punished, but His people will be rewarded. The prophet Hosea married Gomer, a promiscuous woman. After becoming his wife, she bore three children. Then she left him for another man. Yet Hosea sought and redeemed her. In this daily devotional, there’s nothing you can do to stop God’s love for you.
God Redeemed You With Jesus’ Blood
In Monday’s daily devotional, God instructed Hosea to marry Gomer as a picture of God’s love for Israel. Ultimately, God showed His love for the entire world by sending His Son to die for their sins, redeeming them with the blood of Jesus. In today’s daily devotional, God’s steadfast love for His people assures them of divine safety and protection.
