Daily Devotional Wednesday Wisdom | September 16, 2026

It’s Wednesday morning and time for your daily devotional. Psalm 122 is a Song of Degrees by David. In it, he sings of Jerusalem, the Holy City. Jerusalem is significant in the Bible because it’s where God placed His name on the tabernacle patterned after Heaven’s. In today’s daily devotional, shout for joy, for you are now the temple of God. His presence dwells in you. 

House of the Lord

In verse 1, David proclaims, “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.” The temple was built by Solomon after David’s time; however, David worshipped in God’s tabernacle, originally in Gibeon. David permanently placed it in Jerusalem, and here he expresses sheer joy at going into the Lord’s house.

This was the center of worship unto a covenant-keeping God who protected Israel throughout its history. He rejoices at standing within Jerusalem’s gates. In your daily devotional, you are part of God’s new covenant; your heart should be the center of worship unto Him. 

Celebrate God’s Goodness

In verse 3, David calls Jerusalem a well-built city. It was built for worship, as the tent of meeting was in the heart of the city. The tabernacle was the main attraction, the focal point. Israel’s twelve tribes would go up to Jerusalem three times a year to worship God. The city was filled with people and activity surrounding the temple.

There was sacrifice, worship, and praise unto God, who’d brought them together to celebrate His goodness. For it was His ordinance throughout Israel that the tribes ascend to Jerusalem. In this daily devotional, wherever your physical place of worship is, enter in rejoicing and celebrating God’s goodness to you. 

God’s Holy City

Verse 5 declares, “For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.” When David became Israel’s second king, he conquered Jebus and renamed it Jerusalem. He established it as the capital of Israel, the seat of his throne. David ruled his kingdom from Jerusalem and established it as the place of worship.

This was God’s Holy City, where His people heard the Sons of Korah and Asaph, Levite musicians and singers, who were anointed musically. The priests would perform sacred rituals, decked in their colorful robes and beautiful white linen, while the menorah glowed, representing God’s pure light. In your daily devotional, celebrate the beauty of God’s house where all things point to your salvation. 

The Peace of Jerusalem

In verse 6, David requests prayers: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.” God made a covenant with Abraham, promising to bless those who bless him. His covenants with Abraham, Moses, and David reveal His redemptive plan, which points to a New Covenant in Christ. The peace of Jerusalem should be in the hearts of all believers, as it’s the city God chose to put His name.

The Lord ordained the tabernacle to be a place of worship. The priests and Levites were ordained by Him to serve in the House of God. In this daily devotional, you’re included in God’s covenant, which is sprinkled with Christ’s blood. You’re an heir of God and joint-heir of Christ. 

You Are Now God’s Tabernacle

In Wednesday’s daily devotional, David prays for the peace and prosperity of Jerusalem, not just for himself, but for its inhabitants. Because Jerusalem is the city where God’s house dwells, David sought its favor. In today’s daily devotional, the temple no longer stands in Jerusalem; however, you are now the temple of the living God, for He dwells in you.
