It’s Thursday and time for your daily devotional. When the Sons of Korah got together, beautiful songs of praise, worship, and exaltation flowed out igniting the atmosphere. Psalm 84 is a song by the Korahites that exalts the beauty of God’s temple, which representst the presence of God. In today’s daily devotional, your deepest longing is for God’s presence.
Celebrate God’s Dwelling Place
Psalm 84 begins with a declaration: “How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!” The sons extol the greatness of God’s house. Its splendor is a monument to the glory and majesty of God. In 1 Chronicles 22:5, David said God’s temple was to be “exceeding magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries,” and he made great preparation for it before his death.
David understood that it would represent God, and would need to exceed everything else in magnificence. In your daily devotional, the psalmist praises the physical beauty of God’s habitation, while celebrating the spritual signifcance of God with them.
God’s Holy Place
In Psalm 42, the Sons of Korah compared deer panting for water brooks to a soul longing for God. In verse 2, there’s an intense desire to be in God’s presence: “My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.” Such a deep yearning, not only for God’s temple, but to be with God, takes worship to a higher level.
Being in God’s house, you experience a corporate anointing. The sound of voices ringing out together in harmony and praise extolling the greatness of God is a sound like none other. God told Solomon that His presence would be in the midst of His dwelling place. In this daily devotional, craving to be in the Lord’s house shows passion and commitment for the things of God.
Exuberance and Joy
In verse 3, the psalmist notes that even the sparrow finds a nest in God’s house and lays her young among God’s altars, delighting greatly to be near the King of all Creation. Verse 4 declares, “Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee.” Those who delight in the place where God’s glory dwells are blessed.
You might be experiencing trauma outside, but once you sense God’s presence, you should feel exuberance and joy. Psalm 100:4 invites you to enter God’s gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise before even stepping foot into the sanctuary. In your daily devotional, before you walk into the doors, know that God’s presence is with you.
God is Your Strength
Verse 5 proclaims, “Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.” You must recognize you need God’s strength. Pastor and Bible Teacher Keith Moore recalls praying that God show him what he does in his own ability and what God enables him to do.
Then for the next three days, he felt strange. He forgot notes, songs, and scriptures, unable to do his job as a worship leader. Then he realized everything he did was by God’s strength. In this daily devotional, your heart and devotion must be to God, your Source of strength.
His Temple Dwells in You
