Teamfight Tactics Set 17 Five Cost Champions: The Ultimate Capstone
The newest Teamfight Tactics set, Space Gods, has been on the Public Beta Environment. We have spent some time playing the new set and wanted to give extra details on all the new units in Set 17. Most of the five-cost champions in the new set are flexible. They will often be the final piece to most compositions. There is one five-cost that can only appear through a gold augment on 3-2. There are no pure five-cost tanks in the set.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 Five-cost Melee Carries

The majority of the five-cost units are melee-centric carries. One of them can change between a fighter and a ranged champion.
Blitzcrank
Traits: Party Animal, Space Groove, and Vanguard
Blitzcrank is the final piece to Space Groove compositions and can feature as the pivotal Vanguard. He functions similarly to Sett from the previous set. When he loses over half of his health, he crumbles on the spot, but slowly regenerates over time. If he fully repairs, he will permanently be in the groove and fire more bolts.
Fiora
Traits: Divine Duelist, Anima, and Marauder
Fiora is the premier AD Fighter. She is the capstone to any Marauder compositions. She is not necessary for Anima, unless you have the emblem. Fiora can get you out of bad situations with her Divine Duelist passive. The tactician’s healing can be the difference between finishing in the bottom four or the top four. Even without Marauder, Fiora can garner value.
Graves
Traits: Factory New
Graves is a unique unit. At the end of a round, players can upgrade Graves. They get a choice of upgrades, with the first deciding the predominant path. After every third upgrade, future upgrades take an additional round to show up. The most-picked frame is the Assault Frame. It turns Graves into a 2-hex range unit. However, it is nerfed on the live patch. It is essential to get Graves on Stage 4 to upgrade him as best as possible.
Morgana
Traits: Dark Lady
Morgana is the most flexible five-cost unit. She provides your team with damage reduction from abilities. Morgana is your best flexible option. She will rarely be itemized, but can use Thief’s Gloves effectively. If the other five-cost pair with traits on your board, choose those instead.
Shen
Traits: Bulwark and Bastion
If you need an additional Bastion, Shen is the best option. However, he is not a tank. Rammus is significantly better if you need a natural tank. Shen is effective regardless of whether he has items. He should never be your primary carry. Most of Shen’s power is in his Bulwark trait. Bulwark grants a placeable relic that applies a shield and attack speed to anyone within one hex of it. Shen is okay without Bastion.
Zed
Traits: Galaxy Hunter
Zed is only playable through a gold augment on 3-2. However, you do not get Zed straight away. You will need to wait until Stage 4 for him. Every time Zed casts, he creates a clone of himself. The clone has reduced health and increased mana costs. The idea with Zed is to create an endless horde of copies to overwhelm a board. At least one Spear of Shojin is vital to his success. Fortunately, you get the item once you take the augment.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 Five-cost Casters
The five-cost AP Casters can be crucial in rounding out your board.
Bard
Traits: Meeple and Conduit
Bard can help cap any Meeple or Conduit boards. He is especially vital for Meeple as he grants the three closest Meeple units additional Meeps. Bard does not require Meeple to be active to be effective. His spell is not affected by the Meeple bonus.
Sona
Traits: Commander, Psionic, and Shepherd
Sona does not need either of her traits to be an effective unit. The mods granted by the Commander trait allow her to increase the value of the board she is on. Any AP caster items can go to Sona if you have them left over. If you two-star her, she will put in work in the late-game fights.
Teamfight Tactics: Set 17 Five-cost Marksmen

There are three Marksmen units. However, one of them is conditional based on your choices.
Graves
Traits: Factory New
If you choose the Power Frame or Marksmen Frame, Graves is a Marksmen-based unit. At the moment, these forms are not as playable as his fighter form. If the forms are better, he could take items from Xayah on the late-game boards.
Jhin
Traits: Dark Star, Eradicator, and Sniper
Jhin was a dominant force at the start of the PBE. He has since received multiple nerfs to keep him in check. He will almost always be the capstone unit for any Dark Star or Sniper Boards. Even though Jhin is an Attack Marksman, he prefers pure AD items. His unique trait is one of the least flexible ones, but it can help if you do not have any other units.
Vex
Traits: Doomer
Opposite to Jhin, Vex needed buffs to be an effective unit. She is dodging nerfs heading into the live game. Vex will be the premier five-cost carry. However, you need to reach level 9 and have the items ready for her to carry. LeBlanc is the best item carrier for Vex until you reach her best board.
