Teamfight Tactics Set 17 Aatrox Hero Augment Guide: Finding the Stellar Combo
Set 17 of Teamfight Tactics has six hero augments as of patch 17.1. In patch 17.2, there will be three additional hero augments. Aatrox’s hero augment turns him from a tank into an AD Fighter. His spell has three different forms. Each time he casts, he uses a different version of his Q from League of Legends. Below is all you need to know to succeed with the Stellar Combo Aatrox Hero Augment.
Teamfight Tactics: Aatrox Hero Augment

Every time Aatrox casts his spell, he uses a different version of it. The first cast in the rotation deals physical damage in front of him. The next deals damage in a cone and reduces the target’s armor. The final cast deals damage in a one-hex radius around the target and knocks up any enemies hit. The spell only hits one enemy; that target takes additional damage. There are five different units that we can three-star with this composition. Four of them are one-cost units, meaning we will roll at level 5. Because there are five units, it is unlikely you can three-star all of them due to bench space. Prioritize the units you have items for.
Approaching the Augment
Early Game
- Slam early items
- Ideally, BIS items for Aatrox
- Aatrox, Jax, Twisted Fate, and Caitlyn will be your core in most games
- Win streak where possible
- Do not level early
Mid-Game
- Slow roll at level 5 for Aatrox and at least two of Jax, Caitlyn, Talon, and Twisted Fate
- Focus on the units you have items for
- Always add N.O.V.A. units as you level
- If you hit Aatrox early and are not close to any other units, leveling is more important
- Especially if you have not played the Medallion Stargazer
Late Game
- Add in all the N.O.V.A units
- You can play around Stargazer, depending on which constellation it is
- If you do not have three-star Caitlyn, transfer her items to Kindred
Itemization

Aatrox
Focus on getting the BIS items for Aatrox. He wants the traditional AD Fighter items of Bloodthirster, Sterak’s Gage, and Titan’s Resolve.
Caitlyn
Caitlyn needs Guinsoo’s Rageblade to get value. Round out your Caitlyn with AD items. You do not need Infinity Edge, since Fateweaver gives Caitlyn Precision. Kraken’s Fury and Guardbreaker are the best options. You can change them to Giant Slayer or Deathblade if you do not have the items.
Twisted Fate
Twisted Fate wants AP items. His BIS currently is double Nashor’s Tooth and a Rabadon’s Deathcap. The double Nashor’s could change in future patches. Spear of Shojin, Guardbreaker, or Giant Slayer are good replacements if you have to slam items. Much like Caitlyn, Twisted Fate does not need Jeweled Gauntlet.
Jax
Jax wants regular tank items. You do not need to build Ionic Spark or Evenshroud on him because Aatrox’s N.O.V.A. provides Shred and Sunder. Sunfire Cape is good as no other units want burn items. Round it out with other tank items like Spirit Visage, Bramble Vest, or Dragon’s Claw.
Positioning Tips
Try to keep all of your carries and Jax on the same side. Jax can move away if you do not have the Sunfire Cape on him. Also, take note of the Stargazer hexes and ensure you make use of them. Try to keep Aatrox away from the enemy’s main tank.
Best Space Gods
Varus or Kayle are the best Space Gods for this composition. That will apply to all hero augments. Ahri is okay as well, if she gives you rerolls. Varus’s additional duplicators can guarantee you hit your units, and his boon increases your team strength. Kayle can ensure you get the items you want, and her boon provides combat power. In patch 17.2, Kayle’s boon changes to stats for every completed item.
Additional Tips
Always try to play this Hero Augment on the Medallion Stargazer. The additional damage amp will help your team cut through enemy tanks. Medallion is getting nerfed in patch 17.2, but will still be the BIS Stargazer. Any augments or encounters that give items or econ for rerolls will help in your endeavors. Stellar Combo Aatrox is unlikely to give you a first-place finish. However, if played well, you can guarantee yourself a top-four with the composition.
