DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered launches Nov. 10 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC for $29.99. Developer Aspyr is reviving the 2004 console classic on current hardware, and it’s bringing a few things the original never had.

The original Shrek 2 video game launched in May 2004 for PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and PC. The remaster is based on the console version, a four-player co-op action game, rather than the PC release, which was a separate single-player platformer, according to VGC. On PC, the remaster will be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Shrek 2 Remastered release date, platforms and price

  • Date: Nov. 10
  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store)
  • Price: $29.99 ($26.99 with the 10% preorder discount)

What we know about Shrek 2 Remastered

The remastered version carries over the core game but updates its visual presentation. Gematsu reported the remaster includes improved graphics with better textures, an enhanced user interface, 4K resolution support and upgraded cutscenes. 4K is available on every platform except the original Switch.

It isn’t purely a visual overhaul, though. Aspyr is adding a Photo Mode and a Cheat Mode, and co-op now supports up to four players locally, online or a mix of both. Beyond those additions, players should expect the remaster to largely preserve the original 2004 game’s structure and content.

Why it matters

The remaster brings a 22-year-old licensed game to current hardware at a time when PlayStation’s digital library is under a microscope. Total Apex Entertainment previously reported on Sony pulling Knack 2, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and God of War III Remastered from the North American PlayStation Store. Those listings returned within days, and a pricing error on the Mexican storefront is the leading explanation, but the episode was a reminder of how much control storefront owners have over what players can buy. A licensed classic arriving on new hardware is a welcome move in the other direction.

The release also lands amid broader questions about how publishers support older titles across generations. Total Apex Entertainment has covered related physical media concerns, including the uncertain future of Xbox physical games. Meanwhile, GameSpot recently reported that PS5’s top-selling physical titles look very different from its digital hits.

What’s next

Digital preorders are live now at a 10% discount, bringing the price to $26.99. On PS5, the discount requires a PlayStation Plus subscription, and Xbox Game Pass members can get up to 20% off through Nov. 9. The remaster launches Nov. 10 on all platforms.
