“One Piece: Grand Gourmet,” a restaurant management simulator from developer Kairosoft and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment, is available now on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC via Steam, iOS and Android. The $19.99 game launched Oct. 23. It puts players to work aboard Baratie Number Two, a new branch of the floating restaurant where Sanji learned to cook in the East Blue.
Early reviews landed Oct. 21. Anime News Network gave the game a B+, while IGN scored it 6 out of 10.
How “One Piece: Grand Gourmet” uses the Baratie
The original Baratie is the floating restaurant introduced early in the “One Piece” story. In “Grand Gourmet,” Luffy and Sanji open a second location, and players join the crew as a rookie staff member, according to Bandai Namco.
The story gives players a reason to get involved. After a storm scatters the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy and Sanji discover impostor pirates running a fake version of the Baratie. According to Bandai Namco, the impostors are damaging the real restaurant’s reputation with overpriced dishes and poor service.
The pair opens Baratie Number Two to restore that reputation. Players help by outselling the impostors in cooking showdowns.
Anime News Network noted that the framing story takes place well after the time skip. That puts it a long way from the Baratie’s first appearance in the East Blue.
Restaurant customization and arc-themed decor
“Grand Gourmet” lets players decorate and customize their restaurant ship with more than 200 furniture and decorative items, many of them tied to specific story arcs. Each new region the game unlocks adds pieces that match the look of its arc.
Several reviewers singled out the Thriller Bark set, which supplies horror-themed options for players to add to their restaurant. Beyond building and decorating, players can also recruit characters from the series to dine at, or work in, their restaurant. More than 400 characters appear as customers and staff.
Story progression across the series
The game’s regions follow the “One Piece” timeline in order. They start in the East Blue and move forward into content from recent arcs, Absolute Geeks reported.
That structure brings in characters from across the full span of the series rather than limiting the cast to one region or saga.
What reviewers are saying
Anime News Network praised the pixel art and called the restaurant sim a surprisingly good fit for the franchise. IGN liked the premise but found that many of its management decisions didn’t carry much weight.
What’s next
Bandai Namco has not announced downloadable content or post-launch updates for “Grand Gourmet.” Fans who want to know what’s coming should watch the game’s official channels.
