The Bungie team shared details about the unvaulting of Destiny content. We have more details on the future of Destiny. The Principal Communications Manager, dmg04, sat down with Josh Deane to discuss what they could reveal. Josh is Bungie’s Head of Product. Before we get into the details, temper your expectations. We are in the early days of unvaulting previous content and rebuilding the future. Josh shared what he could, but there is still plenty of time before the future of Destiny arrives.
The Bungie Community Update:
The Bungie Community Update is a new blog. It will cover everything Bungie-related: Destiny, Marathon, and general Bungie news. There is no designated time slot. Bungie will post it when an update is needed or available. They want to improve their communication. The blog will not be the only source of updates. They are working on more Dev Insights. These will focus on the Symbiosis and March Updates for Marathon.
The Future of Destiny: Unvaulting Destiny 2 Content

Unvaulting content is their current priority. Josh believes there is no way to move forward without “repairing trust and making Destiny 2 whole”. Unvaulting will take time. The blog revealed the current progress bar.
- Initial discussions took place in June 2026
- Validation happened in September 2026
- They are currently in Pre-Production
- Production will start around January/February 2027
- The release is roughly 12 months after Production starts
Progress bars are Bungie’s new form of displaying timelines. These will replace roadmaps. We should expect more progress bars on future updates to both Destiny and Marathon.
The Future of Destiny: What is Being Unvaulted?
Josh separated the unvaulting into three categories:
First Pass – Initial Unvaulting
- Red War, Forsaken, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind Campaigns
- Strikes
- Raids and Raid Lairs
- Menagerie Activity – Reprised Rewards
Second Pass – Stretch Goals for Post-Unvaulting
- Free Roam Destinations
- Public Events, Lost Sectors, Escalation Protocol
- Seasonal Activities from Sundial to The Coil
- Raid and Lair Weapon Updates
- PvP Maps
Third Pass – May Not Arrive
- Updated New Light Experience
- Seasonal Story Missions
- Gambit Map – Kell’s Grave
- Seasonal Hubs
The Future of Destiny 2
Josh confirmed that the future will take a while. That said, he did share some potential updates coming to Destiny.
- Destiny 2 Celebration
- February Progress Bar
- To celebrate Destiny beyond MoT
- More details in the future
- Destiny Legacy
- February Progress Bar
- Potential Destiny 1 Remaster
- More information early next year
- Redacted (TBD)
- Launch Ventrilio Message: “We’re Back”
Josh kept it realistic. They need to decide what projects they can invest time in. They need to incubate their projects first. Only once they deem their project planning successful can they invest more members and resources. The future is brighter after the blog post. However, the future is far away.
The Future of Destiny: Josh’s Final Plea
Josh made one request to the Bungie communities, Destiny and Marathon. We need to unify as one. The games can not work independently. They need each other. For Destiny to revive, Marathon must thrive. He implores everyone to support Marathon and help it become sustainable. The more we give to Marathon, the more both it and Destiny will give back to us.
Future Updates

Marathon: Symbiosis launches in December of this year. The next Dev insight for Marathon should launch in early December. We can expect future progress bar updates and more information on the unvaulting in February. While we hoped for more, it was unlikely. As Josh mentioned, the plans will take time. But we must continue our fight. Instead of us versus Marathon, we must become unified. If we band together, we become stronger. Remember, Guardian, we make our own fates. The future of Destiny is in our hands.
