Fortnite finally stopped playing coy and confirmed the One Piece crossover everyone with an X account and too much free time saw coming. Epic Games dropped a Going Merry teaser Oct. 24, and the internet reacted exactly how you would expect, which is to say screaming, theorizing and making the same joke about Luffy’s stretchy arms ruining the building mechanics. Did anyone actually doubt this was happening after September’s wink-wink nudge from the official account?
Treasure Map Points to November
One Piece leaks have been floating around since early 2024, and Fortnite’s social media team spent September happily playing along, so the official announcement feels less like news and more like a formality. A separate teaser that same day showed off something called Treasure Hunters, complete with a hand-drawn treasure map and a Nov. 1 date slapped on the screen.
That date matters because Treasure Hunters is the mini-season that closes out Chapter 7, and it takes over from the current Override season. Translation: players have roughly one day to finish whatever battle pass nonsense they have been putting off. My bias? I think mini-seasons are a scam designed to make you buy tiers at 3 a.m. while questioning your life choices. But fine, treasure hunting sounds fun enough, even if the real treasure is the V-Bucks we spent along the way.
Miku Returns and Brings a Friend
The pirates didn’t even get the first word. A day before the Going Merry sailed in, the official Hatsune Miku account posted a teaser of Miku in a full pirate captain getup, and Kasane Teto got her own teaser video too, complete with a pirate flag showing her and Miku together. That sent the Vocaloid faithful into a full meltdown on par with that one time the Wii turned on its side, and everyone acted like it was a new console.
Miku has been in Fortnite since early 2025, and leakers say she and Teto are getting Sprite versions on top of the new outfits. Sprite Miku is a deeply funny concept if you think about it for more than four seconds. A digital pop star turned collectible floating orb is the most 2026 thing imaginable, and I refuse to pretend otherwise.
Anime Juggernaut Keeps Rolling
Scrappy underdog property? Please. The anime has aired well over 1,100 episodes, the manga has been running since 1997, and Netflix made a live-action version that people actually liked, which almost never happens. Which version will Fortnite pull from, though?
Actually, we already know, because the teaser’s licensing credit names Toei Animation, the studio behind the anime. So this is the anime version through and through. No live-action Luffy, no manga-only weirdness, just the good stuff. I would still pay real money to watch live-action Luffy crank a 90, but that dream is dead.
Games Galore for the Straw Hats
The Straw Hats have been crashing video games since 2000, and the results have been all over the place. Exhibit A: One Piece: Grand Gourmet, a pixel-art cooking and restaurant management sim from Bandai Namco and Kairosoft, just launched on Switch, Switch 2, PC and mobile, and it puts you to work alongside Sanji at a second Baratie. That is a sentence I never thought I would type.
Exhibit B: 2019’s Jump Force, a game remembered mostly for looking incredible in trailers and feeling like a wet paper bag in your hands. Bandai Namco pulled it from digital stores in 2022, which tells you everything. Fortnite fits better than either of those, honestly. The art style, the chaos, the emotes, it all lines up.
X Loses Its Collective Mind
Fortnite’s account spent September trolling fans with vague hints, and the payoff was a teaser that gave us maybe four seconds of actual information. That is the modern marketing playbook, and it works every single time. The drip has sped up since then. A 28-second season trailer Oct. 27 put seven One Piece characters on screen, including Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji and Buggy, and turned the Going Merry into the Battle Bus.
Fans spent weeks demanding a Devil Fruit mechanic that would absolutely break the game, and Epic said yes. The Oct. 30 gameplay trailer confirms Devil Fruits as Mythic items, including Luffy’s Gum-Gum Fruit and Ace’s Flame-Flame Fruit, on a new island called Crossbones Isle with stops like Arlong Park and Windmill Village. Good luck to everyone who has to win a box fight against a rubber man. My take? The collab will be fine, the skins will sell out instantly, and someone on Reddit will post a 4,000-word essay about how this ruins Fortnite forever. Same as it ever was.
Stay Tuned for More Pirate Nonsense
Prices and the exact day-one skin lineup are still under wraps, and Epic plans to add new crews as the mini-season rolls on, with A$AP Rocky and Lil Uzi Vert also along for the voyage. Until then, we get to speculate wildly about whether Chopper counts as a Sprite or a full character, assuming Epic remembers him at all. That is the kind of question that keeps me up at night, and I am only slightly joking. Point is, the pirates are coming, Miku is returning and your wallet is about to take a beating. Some things never change.
