Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. movies, TV and studio news.

Total Apex Take

Warner Bros. is in the middle of the biggest corporate unraveling in modern Hollywood, and the movies are almost beside the point compared to the fight over who owns the studio next.

David Zaslav's Warner Bros. Discovery announced plans in 2025 to split into two separate public companies — a streaming-and-studios entity built around Warner Bros. and HBO Max, and a cable-networks business — before that process itself got swept into acquisition interest from Paramount Skydance, Netflix, and Comcast all reportedly circling the studio side. This has unfolded while the actual film output has been genuinely strong: Dune: Part Two and A Minecraft Movie were both major 2024-2025 hits, and HBO's prestige slate (including a Harry Potter television series now in production) remains the industry's creative gold standard.

We think the split-and-sell drama is the more consequential story for the studio's future than any single release, because whoever ends up controlling Warner Bros. inherits a genuinely well-run creative operation currently buried under years of Zaslav-era cost-cutting, library mining, and reputational damage from decisions like shelving completed films for tax write-downs. The HBO brand and DC's Gunn-era reboot are both strong enough to survive new ownership; the open question is whether a buyer treats them as assets to invest in or assets to strip.

Follow the sale process closely — if Paramount Skydance, Netflix, or Comcast actually lands Warner Bros., the entire DC Studios and HBO release calendar could be renegotiated or reprioritized almost overnight.

About Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. was founded in 1923 by brothers Harry, Albert, Sam, and Jack Warner, and became one of the "Big Five" studios that defined Hollywood's golden age. The studio pioneered synchronized-sound film with 1927's The Jazz Singer, widely credited with ending the silent-film era.

Today Warner Bros. operates as part of Warner Bros. Discovery, formed by the 2022 merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery, Inc., and its portfolio spans DC film and television, the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings franchises, HBO, and the Warner Bros. Animation and New Line Cinema labels.
