A24 is preparing to shop Jesse Eisenberg’s new untitled TV series to buyers in coming weeks, according to Deadline. Eisenberg is writing, directing and executive producing; former Disney and Fox executive Peter Rice, who was just named Chief Content Officer for Netflix, is executive producing under his A24 deal.
The series is based on a short story by Eisenberg about a young woman where new ideas and relationships challenge her beliefs. Eisenberg told The Hollywood Reporter at the London Film Festival premiere of “The Debut” that the series is about the beginning of the culture wars and follows an 18-year-old girl in the fall of 2002.
What Is Known About The Jesse Eisenberg TV Series
It is unclear whether the source material is the Harper Jablonski story, a tale of a college freshman struggling with her college experience that appears in Eisenberg’s 2016 collection “Bream Gives Me Hiccups.”
Why Netflix Looms Large In The Sale
Netflix, now with Rice at the content helm, will likely be in contention for the series, given the streamer’s home to high-profile A24 shows such as “Beef” and upcoming untitled projects from Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour. Rice is not expected to have hands-on involvement going forward but will likely retain his executive producer credit for having developed the series.
Eisenberg’s Recent Work With A24
The series marks Eisenberg’s television return after starring in the 2022 FX limited series “Fleishman Is In Trouble.” He previously developed a TV series adaptation of “Bream Gives Me Hiccups” for Amazon and A24 a decade ago and single-camera comedy “The Market” for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV.
The series arrives on the heels of Eisenberg’s feature film “The Debut,” which he wrote and directed for A24 starring Julianne Moore. Eisenberg won an Oscar for writing “A Real Pain” and earned an Academy Award nomination for playing Mark Zuckerberg in “The Social Network.”
What’s Next
A24 is expected to begin shopping the series to buyers in coming weeks. No casting or timeline has been announced.
