Teamfight Tactics Set 18: Shaping Dynamic Boards With Luxanna Crownguard

The Enchanted Wilds Set 18 Teamfight Tactics

Lux is a unique unit in Set 18 of Teamfight Tactics. She has one primary Trait: Avatar. That Trait allows her to take on some of the most important Origins in the set. She will always count as two for the Trait that she takes on. Any one of the Lux variations can appear in your shop, as long as you have not purchased a Lux.

Lux is a five-cost Ability Power Caster in Set 18 who wants Spear of Shojin as her primary item. She can use utility items like Void Staff and Morellonomicon, or have more damage with Jeweled Gauntlet and Rabadon’s Deathcap. Her spell has a passive and an active:

Passive

On cast, all allies that share a trait with Lux gain 3/3/100/999 mana.

Active

Fire a laser towards the largest group of enemies that deals 330/520/5000/9999 Ability Power magic damage, reduced by 25%/25%/10%/10% for each enemy hit (minimum 40%).

Teamfight Tactics: Lux’s Avatar Trait

Lux’s Avatar Trait reads as follows: “Having an Avatar on your bench or board transforms all other Avatars in your shop to the Trait of that Avatar. An Avatar’s chosen Trait is counted twice for Trait bonuses.” There have been multiple bugs with Lux on PBE, but most have been fixed. Each version of Lux has a different bonus. The numbers for each bonus can change at any point in the set.

Fae

Heals the lowest percent Health ally for 18% of the ability damage dealt.

Coven

Reduces the Armor and Magic Resist of targets by 12 for the rest of combat.

Solar

Weakens enemies hit by 12% for 6 seconds.

Primal

Gains 50% Attack Speed for 6 seconds after cast.

Blackthorn

Stuns targets hit for 1 second.

Blossom

The first target hit is dealt 15% bonus damage.

Inferno

Restores 8 mana per takedown.

Elderwood

Casts grant all allies 4% increased max health for the rest of combat.

Teamfight Tactics: The Best Traits

Very rarely will you choose the Lux specifically for the bonus. You want to aim for a Lux that will benefit the Traits on your board. Her granting mana to units that share a trait with her can help most boards. Ahri, Sivir, Alune, Ashe, and more can benefit from the additional mana. If you are playing a Blossom board, Blossom Lux can help to cap out your board. Her adding two to a specific trait can allow you to drop weaker Blossom units. For example, with vertical Blossom, you play every Blossom unit alongside Gnar and Maokai. With Lux, you can either play for 9 Blossom or drop Yunara and Master Yi for units like Zyra or Ivern.

You can also add the Vanguard four- and five-cost package of Sentinel and Taric. Primal will likely be the most flexible Lux to play. Alone, she activates the Primal Trait. Lunar Lux can do the same, but the buff from Lunar is not as strong. Keep an eye out for anyone else who has a Lux you want. You should rarely plan to play around Lux at the beginning of the game. The likelihood you find the Lux you need is relatively low, compared to other boards. You can also pivot to a different board if you get an early Lux.
