Teamfight Tactics Set 18: Five Compositions to Dominate on PBE
Set 18 for Teamfight Tactics has been on PBE for a handful of days. We have playtested most of the current compositions and have a list of the five we recommend you try to get into the set. These compositions may stay the same heading into the live patch, but with four weeks of PBE, a lot can change. Buffs, nerfs, and optimizations will alter what is best for the set.
Teamfight Tactics: Blossom Ahri – Fast Eight
Blossom is a fairly simple vertical trait. It gives additional stats and boosts the power of your Wisps. The additional economy from seven Blossom allows players to spend more gold looking for the best Wisps. Your primary carry is Ahri, who shares the Spellweaver trait with Karma. As you level up, add additional Blossom units. Karma is your Ahri item carrier, while Yorick, or any Juggernaut, can carry Tank items. Those Tank items will move to Sett in the late game. Yunara can use any additional AD caster items until you get Ashe. Add in Maokai and Gnar for your level nine board.
Teamfight Tactics: Elderwood Ezreal – Fast Eight
The Elderwood Ezreal composition is similar to Blossom. As you level, add more Elderwood units. The Trees can help increase your combat power to win fights or at least lose fights by one or two units. The only tricky part about the composition is finding a unit to carry Ezreal items. Xayah is not that effective, and she is the only AD backliner in Elderwood. LeBlanc can hold the AP items that will eventually go to Soraka.
Ezreal and Soraka do not need Infinity Edge or Jeweled Gauntlet thanks to the Executioner trait. Any of your upgraded Tanks can hold the items for the late game. Soraka and Fiddlesticks are your additional units, in addition to the seven Elderwood units. Elderwood lacks a four- or five-cost tank, but the trees provide frontline.
Teamfight Tactics: Solar Kayle – Level Six Reroll
Solar is the best reroll trait in the set. It provides additional bonuses for each three-star unit on your board. The best composition to run alongside the three Solar units is Inferno. Varus, Shen, and Amumu join Kayle, Leona, and Sejuani. The comp benefiting from more three-star units means staying at level six for most of the game is worth it to find all of them. Kayle is your primary carry, wanting at least one Guinsoo’s Rageblade, while Leona is your best tank. If you find three-star Shen or Sejuani first, give them your tank items.
Teamfight Tactics: Riftbeasts – Fast 9
Riftbeasts is another composition that plays around units from the trait. The main difference is that your focus in this composition is on Fighter Items, with Brambleback and Elder Dragon as your carries. Murk Wolves can be your item holder for most of the early game until you get one of your frontline carries. Scuttle Crab and Krug can be good Tanks until you find Sentinel. If you reach level 10, you can play all Riftbeasts along with Gnar and Taric to fill out your composition. If you do not have the resources to reach that level, drop weaker Riftbeasts in favor of the aforementioned champions. Your core Riftbeasts should be Pebbles, Murkwolf, Krug, Sentinel, Brambleback, and Elder Dragon.
Teamfight Tactics: Riftbeasts – Level 5 Reroll
Another version of Riftbeasts that you can play is a reroll that focuses on Pebbles and Gromp. Both units want AP items. Pebbles prefers Blue Buff, while Gromp wants Spear of Shojin. Reroll at level five for both. If you hit Pebbles, go to level six for better odds at finding Gromp. Add in additional low-cost Riftbeasts. Ideally, play five Riftbeasts for the Riftbeast shop every three rounds. It is unlikely that you will have room for Elder Drake late on, so rather focus on playing a strong level eight board with Gnar or Taric.
Teamfight Tactics: Flexible Late Game Units
Lux is one of the best late-game units for most vertical compositions. Her adding two to a trait allows you to drop lower-cost units in favor of higher-tier flexible units. Maokai and Amumu are a strong Juggernaut pairing; Taric and Sentinel can be a Vanguard frontline, while Gnar and Sett add Brawlers. In the case of Gnar and Sett, both of them have flexible traits in the form of Elderwood and Blossom. Use these pairings to increase the value of your boards if you need more units to play.
