Teamfight Tactics Set 18 Enchanted Wilds: All Four Cost Champions
Set 18: Enchanted Wilds for Teamfight Tactics is live. After a four-week PBE cycle, the set has had numerous patches. Players have had more time to figure out different compositions. They will inevitably find new compositions to run as the set evolves. For players heading into the set, we have information on the champions in Set 18. The four-cost champions will always play a part in your Teamfight Tactics journey.
Set 18: Four-cost Tanks
Amumu
Traits: Inferno and Juggernaut
Amumu is a common pairing with another Juggernaut, depending on what the comp needs. The Inferno trait adds burn and wound to boards that do not want to spend an item slot on it. Amumu and Maokai are a good pairing for any late-game boards if you need a frontline.
Lillia
Traits: Fae and Defender
Lillia is the least flexible of the four-cost tanks. She has no 5-cost Defender pairing. Fae is also a selfish trait, meaning she will likely appear with another Fae unit. She is vital to Cassiopeia reroll as the final Defender. Overall, she is an effective tank that can add crowd control.
Malphite
Traits: Blackthorn and Monolith
Malphite is a pure flex tank. With no defensive trait, he can pair with any frontline in the game. He is the perfect solo frontline thanks to Monolith acting as a Gargoyle’s Stoneplate. For the most part, he has dominated the initial patch. He serves as the frontline for both Sivir and Soraka compositions. Malphite becomes unkillable when with Soraka because of the Flora Fatalis heal.
Sentinel
Traits: Riftbeast, Vanguard, and Invoker
Most fast-8 boards run Sentinel. Sentinel and Taric are a common pairing. Sentinel and Diana are another pairing. The Ravager and Riftbeast traits introduce Brambleback as an option. Sentinel’s crowd control is excellent. The knock-up and mana reave make positioning a nightmare for opponents. Sentinel will appear less often if the meta focuses on reroll compositions.
Sett
Traits: Blossom and Brawler
Because of Ahri’s early dominance, Sett’s play rate was high. He is now one of the weaker four-cost tanks. Most compositions feature him as a secondary tank. He offers the Brawler and Blossom traits, but not much else. He struggles to stay alive nearly as long as Sentinel or Malphite in the current meta.
Set 18: Four-cost Melee Carries
Brambleback
Traits: Riftbeast and Ravager
Brambleback can dominate boards in the right setup. It is a main feature alongside Aphelios and Morgana boards. It relies on other carries to burn through the opponent’s frontlines. Once Brambleback reaches a backline, it will tear them apart. You will almost always have Brambleback and Sentinel on the same board.
Morgana
Traits: Coven and Invoker
Morgana has a two-hex auto-attack range. With the correct items, she can eliminate an entire board in seconds. Morgana is the best unit to play for after a Coven cashout. Otherwise, Morgana pairs with Ahri as a Duo carry. The AoE from both units will dismantle boards. Morgana wants Morellonomicon and Void Staff as her core items.
Nidalee
Traits: Primal and Adaptor
Nidalee is the only Adaptor unit who changes form based on AD or AP. Nidalee’s AD form turns her into a Melee Carry. Nidalee targets units with fewer items first within her jump range. Nidalee is perfect for eliminating backline units one by one. Sterak’s Gage is vital to ensure Nidalee is an AD fighter. You will often see her AD form alongside Sivir.
Set 18: Four-cost Caster Carries
Ahri
Traits: Blossom and Spellweaver
Ahri was the premier four-cost during the PBE. She underwent some nerfs. However, should she receive buffs, she is a powerhouse. Positioning is vital with Ahri. You want her spell to hit the core backline. If you can kill the backline after two casts, you will have a good chance of winning the fight. Ahri needs a strong duo carry to win fights. Morgana, Ashe, and Alune are the common pairings.
Ezreal
Traits: Elderwood and Executioner
Ezreal is another four-cost champion that dominated the early PBE meta. He is now relegated to a duo carry alongside Draven. The level 8 Ezreal board is significantly weaker. However, should Ezreal or Vertical Elderwood become stronger, he will return. Ezreal does not need Infinity Edge because he has the Executioner trait.
Nidalee
Traits: Primal and Adaptor
Nidalee is the only Adaptor unit who changes form based on AD or AP. Nidalee’s AP form turns her into a caster. She throws spears at various targets. Ideally, you want AP Nidalee to cast often. Spear of Shojin and Guinsoo’s Rageblade are BIS. You will see AP Nidalee in Master Yi reroll compositions in the current meta.
Sivir
Traits: Primal and Hunter
Sivir has risen over time and become a lethal pairing alongside Nidalee. She lacks burst damage, but she hits most of the board. As a result, Red Buff is a perfect item for her. Ideally, focus on pure damage items alongside Red Buff instead of Spear of Shojin or Blue Buff. Sivir is a good item holder for Ashe.
Soraka
Traits: Flora Fatalis and Executioner
One part of the most dominant board in the current meta. Soraka can burst through most units and keep your frontline alive. The Flora Fatalis healing helps solo frontlines like Malphite. Soraka does not need Jeweled Gauntlet because of Executioner. Her best Mana item is Adaptive Helm to boost the mana gain from Flora Fatalis.
Zyra
Traits: Thornmaiden and Summoner
The duo carry alongside Soraka. Zyra provides consistent damage in the composition. Her Thornmaiden trait also helps any board. The additional Durability increases your frontline’s efficacy. Pairing her with Soraka’s healing makes Malphite an impenetrable frontline. Zyra wants Spear of Shojin and Void Staff to enable Soraka.
Set 18: Four-cost Marksmen
Aphelios
Traits: Lunar and Rapidfire
Aphelios is the only four-cost marksman. You can play multiple Aphelios variants. He wants a good frontline. Aphelios Vanguard is the most common version, but you can play him with Juggernauts, Elderwood, and Brawlers. The best version in the current patch is with the Rapidfire emblem. Red Buff is better than Guinsoo’s Rageblade. If you play five Rapidfire, you can drop both items for more damage.
