Set 18: How to Safely Climb The Trait Ladder
Trait Ladder is a cashout augment in Set 18: Enchanted Wilds. It rewards you for every unique trait you field on your board. The reward values scale as you continue. We want to look at those rewards and what composition to play. Rewards may differ in future patches, or the best composition to play may change. However, the general idea behind it will stay the same.
Trait Ladder Rewards
The Trait Ladder augment reads: Gain a random emblem. After fielding 2 non-unique traits in a player combat, gain a reward. Then increase the number of traits needed and the size of the reward. The rewards go up to 14 traits:
- 2 Traits – 1 gold+Reforger
- 3 Traits – 3 gold
- 4 Traits – 6 gold
- 5 Traits – random component
- 6 Traits
- 50% – 10 gold
- 50% – 3 three-cost champions
- 7 Traits – 8 gold+component anvil
- 8 Traits
- 57% – 2 random components+Reforger
- 43% – random completed item anvil
- 9 Traits – 2 gold+ 3 five-cost champions
- 10 Traits – 20 gold
- 11 Traits – Tactician’s Item
- 12 Traits – 3 four-cost champions+Lucky Item Chests
- 13 Traits – 8 gold+4 random components+magnetic remover
- 14 Traits – 10 gold+masterwork upgrade
Ideally, you play for all the cashouts. However, you do not have to. The best cashout to aim for is the Tactician’s item. By that point, you have enough resources from the augment to carry you through the game. You cannot receive multiple rewards in a round.
How to Cashout Trait Ladder

Kha’Zix is an integral part of the cashing-out Trait Ladder. Finding him early will help reach the trait thresholds faster. His first evolution is always Ravager with this composition. Always look to add traits to your board as you level up. Prioritize gold in leveling instead of rerolling.
The level eight board to play to reach ten traits is:
- Ornn – Elderwood+Defender
- Rakan – Fae+Juggernaut+Vanguard
- Xayah – Elderwood+Fae+Rapidfire
- LeBlanc – Elderwood+Spellweaver
- Diana – Lunar+Ravager+Vanguard
- Fiddlesticks – Flora Fatalis+Defender+Spellweaver
- Kha’Zix – Rival
- Aphelios – Lunar+Rapidfire
This board will get you the 10 Trait cashout and the Tactician’s item. If you want to chase more rewards, Amumu and Kennen are perfect. They will add Inferno and Juggernaut to your board. Eventually, you can get Executioner from Kha’Zix. Draven or Lux is the final piece to reach 14 traits.
Playing Strongest Board
Your board strength compared to the rest of the lobby will determine your early and mid-game. You do not need a losing streak with this augment. Ideally, you want to win streak to preserve health. However, do not tunnel vision on winning every game. Play around the units that you hit. In some situations, you can afford to hit your econ to keep winning. The gold granted from Trait Ladder will make up for it in the long run.
Late Game Boards

Ideally, play a level 9 board after receiving all your cashouts. The best board to play is Draven. Both Aphelios and Xayah are great item holders for Draven. The two other options in the current meta are boards that play around Ashe or Elder Dragon. Keep in mind what other players are looking to play. Either you need to transition faster or adjust the composition you want to play.
