Destiny 2 Pit of Heresy 2026 Dungeon Guide
The June 9th update brings tiered loot to every raid and dungeon in Destiny 2. Each one will see their weapons get a loot refresh and an individual armor set. The armor sets come with their own set piece bonuses. The Pit of Heresy Dungeon was once a crowning dungeon to complete. However, it has become much easier, with the base guardian becoming significantly stronger.
Loading Into The Dungeon
As you load in, head forward until you see a hive barrier beneath you. After a short duration, the barrier will disappear, and you will drop down. Continue following the path until you reach a cliff. Before you drop down, there is a rally banner.
Pit of Heresy: Necropolis
The first encounter is a series of various levels and multiple rooms. There are two types of rooms:
- Rooms with a giant Hive Knight
- One of three Hive bosses
Killing a Giant Hive Knight drops a Hive Sword. You will need this sword to complete the encounter mechanics. At the back of a room, three hive symbols are hanging. These indicate the rooms that contain the three bosses. All the other rooms will have a giant Hive Knight. As you move across the bridges, kill as many Ogres as possible. Killing them will allow for a Hive Knight to spawn on the bridge. Assign one player per room. Each room has a different boss:
- The Hive Knight Boss
- Killed with Light Attacks and Super from the Hive Sword
- The Hive Wizard Boss
- Killed with Heavy Attack projectiles from the Hive Sword
- The Hive Shrieker Boss
- Killed with deflected projectiles from the Shrieker by the Hive Sword
To unlock every room, there are a handful of enemies that you must kill. Most importantly, kill the Pit Keeper. After you kill all three bosses, a light will shine in the middle of the area. Follow it and kill the final Pit Keeper to complete the encounter.
Pit of Heresy: The Tunnels
After clearing the encounter, head forward until you reach a wall of doors. Ignore all of the doors, and instead head through the opening at the bottom. Follow the path to reach the tunnels. Here, you will need three Hive Knights that drop orbs. At the same time, Hive Ogres will patrol each lane. The Ogres are immune and will hurt you if they catch you. Deposit each orb and one section of the door to break the barrier. There are four locations for the knights, two on the left and two on the right. After the barrier drops, be wary; sometimes the Ogres do not instantly despawn and may kill you.
Pit of Heresy: The Chamber of Suffering

The most important part of this encounter is the plate in the middle. If there is no player on the plate at a time, it will start to rage. You can leave the plate for 10 seconds before you wipe. Waves of Hive enemies spawn. Periodically, Hive Knights spawn that will drop orbs. You need to collect and deposit six orbs near the plate to complete the encounter. Ideally, keep one player on the plate at a time. It will ensure you never have to worry about the wipe. Every time you dunk an orb, a wave of enemies spawns.
Be wary of the Cursed Thrall and the red bar Knights that spawn above. Throughout the encounter, you gain the Curse of Suffering debuff. The more stacks you gain, the more damage enemies deal to you. However, every orb you deposit will reset the stacks. After six deposits, the encounter ends, and an opening appears.
Pit of Heresy: The Harrow Labyrinth
After the encounter ends, you need to drop down through a hole that has plenty of moving obstacles. Dodge them as best as you can. Before heading to the final encounter, you must complete the Labyrinth. As you drop down, you will see three symbols. These correlate to the places where you find the Hive enemies:
- Ice Cream Cone = close left
- Fence = far left
- Table with three lines = middle left
- Table with two lines = far right
- Praise = middle
- A = Close right
Killing each Wizard at the symbol will unlock the door and allow you to progress. The end is on the opposite side. Follow the path until you reach the final encounter.
Pit of Heresy: Zulmak, Instrument of Torment

The three bosses from the first encounter return. The mechanics are the same:
- The Hive Knight Boss
- Killed with Light Attacks and Super from the Hive Sword
- The Hive Wizard Boss
- Killed with Heavy Attack projectiles from the Hive Sword
- The Hive Shrieker Boss
- Killed with deflected projectiles from the Shrieker by the Hive Sword
Killing each boss drops an orb that you must deposit in three separate locations around the boss. Once you deposit all three, the damage phase starts. You can only deal damage to the boss inside the centre area. During damage, Cursed Thrall spawn; watch out for them. Otherwise, keep dealing damage until the boss places his sword in the ground. Jump out of the boss area to avoid death. Repeat until Zulmak dies.
