Chovy and Gen.G Esports have qualified for the semi-finals in four of the last five Worlds. He has another chance to ascend to the peak of LoL Esports. But Rookie and TheShy are standing in his way at Worlds 2026. It is the Cinderella story versus the favorites. Chovy fell victim to the Cinderella story last year, losing to KT Rolster. Will Chovy finally achieve the title that has eluded him for so long?
Worlds 2026: Player Head-to-Head

Top Lane – Kiin Versus TheShy
Gen.G’s plan in their recent series was to target Dhokla and use Kiin’s laning advantage. They could keep that strategy in this series. TheShy and Invictus Gaming must be ready. He needs to pull as many resources as possible. TheShy is a concern in the 1v1 matchup. Kiin is at peak form, while he struggled to beat 369 in the quarterfinals.
Jungle – Canyon Versus Wei (Featured Matchup)
Both junglers played an important role in their team’s quarterfinals. The early ganks from both junglers put their teams ahead. In the one game Wei struggled, they lost. Canyon’s focus was top lane. Wei helped all of his laners. The pathing adaptation is important. Both junglers will try to outsmart the other.
Mid Lane – Chovy Versus Rookie
Chovy and Rookie meet in a Bo5 for the first time since 2019. Rookie won the matchup. Much has changed since then. Chovy was an up-and-coming player, while Rookie was at his peak. Now Rookie is the challenger, and Chovy is the favorite. Both players have been exceptional at Worlds. Rookie has his work cut out for him.
Bot Lane – Ruler Versus JiaQi
JiaQi has bested his mentor, JackeyLove. He faces another AD Carry veteran. Ruler is on a tear recently. He is reaching his peak. JiaQi has not faced a player of this calibre in a Bo5 on the international stage. Ruler is favored in the matchup, but JiaQi can beat the veteran.
Support – Duro Versus Meiko
Duro underperformed in the quarterfinals. He played well, but not to his standards. Duro will need to step up in this series to match Meiko. The veteran support is not at his best, but he is a step up from Isles. Duro will likely not play Meiko off the rift, but he can outpace him. He needs to maintain his level to help Ruler keep JiaQi quiet.
Predictions

Gen.G Esports 3-2 Invictus Gaming
The two teams started Worlds 2026 against each other. IG started well, but they lost control. One fight changed everything. Gen.G’s level has not changed. They have also not been tested. IG has leveled up during the tournament. Their road was not as easy. LYON took them to three games in the Swiss Stage. Top Esports challenged them throughout the series. That will help them. Gen.G was only under pressure against LYON. Even then, it always felt like they were gonna win.
We have been here before. They are the favorite going into the Semi-Finals. They lost in 2022 to DRX. They lost in 2024 to T1. They lost to KT in 2025 to KT Rolster. They face another Cinderella story. They must draw on those losses to drive them forward.
The Grand Final On the Horizon
Of the ten players in the match, five have gone to the Grand Finals. Three of them are on IG. The other two are Canyon and Ruler. There is plenty of experience. Chovy has chased a Grand Finals appearance throughout his career. Can he topple Rookie and reach the stage that has eluded him his entire career? Or is it another year where Chovy and his team fumble so late into the year? Can Rookie and TheShy continue their Cinderella story with another monumental victory?
