New Resident Evil Requiem Mod Sees Return of a RE4 Fan-Favorite Charater

Resident Evil: Requiem

It’s been a couple of months now since Resident Evil Requiem hit the gaming scene, stunning critics and fans of the franchise alike, with many people saying it’s a contender for Game of the Year. When the game first dropped, modders couldn’t wait to get their hands on it, creating everything from quality-of-life mods that made certain game mechanics much easier to manage to the silliest, cringiest mods where you question why they even exist in the first place.

Recently, players who’ve been surfing the Nexus Mods store have noticed a new and interesting mod for Resident Evil Requiem that brings back a beloved side character from Resident Evil 4; however, it’s not who you would expect. The mod itself is actually a little funny, but it seems fans are loving it.

As one of the most celebrated games in the franchise, Resident Evil 4 has some of the most iconic characters in the series, from Leon to Ada to the purple-robed merchant, whom we meet throughout our playthrough. Players loved the merchant. His iconic voice to all the wares he has available to buy, when people think of Resident Evil 4, more often than not, the purple-robed merchant comes to mind. However, he only ever really appeared in Resident Evil 4 and has been absent in every other Resident Evil game – until now.

After browsing different mods for Resident Evil Requiem, I came across an interesting mod that brought back a fan-favorite side character, the merchant from Resident Evil 4. The merchant was the game’s version of an in-game store, where you could purchase weapons, items, ammo, and special upgrades throughout your playthrough of the game. As you progress, the items that could be purchased would increase in power and value, so when players ran into the merchant, it was always a good thing.

The merchant also had an air of mystery to him, which is definitely one of the reasons he has an unknown stranger who helps us throughout our endeavors on an island full of people trying to kill us. Thanks to the new mod, Resident Evil Requiem players can now replace the box with the Merchant during Leon’s sections of the story. A clip of the mod gained traction on social media, exciting fans of the series who’ve missed the purple-robed merchant and all he has to offer.

The Merchant Mod

The Merchant mod for Resident Evil Requiem works about as you’d expect. Leon can still access the same inventory of guns and upgrades available in the base game, but this time, you’ll be able to talk to the merchant instead of looking inside a supply box. The Merchant’s voice lines are currently limited to just the one clip of him welcoming the player; however, there is talk of adding more dialogue and animations in the future. This version of the Merchant appears to be pulled from his appearance in the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Resident Evil Requiem Mods Available on Nexus Mod Store

There have been over 1,500 mods made for Resident Evil Requiem. Many of them are quality-of-life mods that have made the game experience a lot smoother for players, like free inventory expansion, camera fixes, and combat balancing. Other mods were more cosmetic-based and seemed more silly than anything else, like the shirtless Leon mod or the Grace bunny suit mod. Resident Evil Requiem mods have given players the chance to experience the game uniquely, and it doesn’t seem like modders will stop coming up with some really interesting ones anytime soon.
