Daily Devotional Tuesday Thoughts | May 19, 2026

It’s Tuesday, and time for your daily devotional. The parables of Jesus are simple, relevant, and spiritual. He utilized this teaching for His truths to be understood and accepted by using everyday elements from fields, fishing, and even precious gems. In today’s daily devotional, Jesus’ three kingdom parables in Matthew 13 are aimed at teaching how valuable the Savior is to you.

Seeking Goodly Pearls

In verses 45-46, Jesus asserts, “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” Having just compared the kingdom to hidden treasure, it’s clear what this second parable emphasizes. He now compares the kingdom to a merchant or tradesman. As a pearl merchant, he’s accustomed to appraising these gems and assessing their worth.

When he finds a unique pearl, he knows he’s found a once-in-a-lifetime treasure, and he must have it regardless of cost. So he sells everything to acquire it. In your daily devotional, you must recognize the value of Christ and surrender everything to walk with Him. There’s a song by gospel artist Kirk Franklin that says, “No fame or fortune, nor riches untold, I’d rather have Jesus than silver and gold.”

A Spiritual Merchant

Some may chase riches, fame, or fortune, but without seeking Christ, they’re receiving temporary satisfaction. A true believer is a spiritual merchant who doesn’t waste time seeking worldly goods, but the true treasure — Jesus Christ. The Bible asks what does it profit you to gain the world and lose your soul. If you chase after things and acquire them, without Christ, you’ll still be empty.

A multimillionaire confessed that although he lives in a large mansion, he feels regret and loneliness. With Jesus, you have a well of living water springing inside you, and He promised to be with you always. 1 Corinthians 1:30 declares, God made Jesus our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. In this daily devotional, realize that all you need for an abundant life is in Him.

Forsake Everything

Knowing that without Christ, there’s no hope of salvation, you’re willing to sacrifice all for Him.  You know Christ is the Stone that’s more valuable than anything else. Without excuses or questions, you obtain this treasure outright because of its inestimable value. Those who seek salvation will forsake everything and follow Him. Jesus’ disciples left their former lives behind. They gave up all because they valued Him as the Messiah. In today’s daily devotional, move past opposition, persecution, or naysayers, and believe that Jesus is the King of Kings.

The True Pearl

Pierre Cartier became a jewelry king by selling a magnificent pearl necklace in the 1920s when pearls were a symbol of taste and wealth. A millionaire’s wife who desired to have it at all cost, inspired the international brand that symbolizes luxurious, high-quality jewelry. Historically, pearls have been highly valued and coveted. Finding costly pearls is an activity involving risk and great effort as divers have searched ocean depths to find these treasures. In your daily devotional, worldly pearls pale to the great value of Christ, the true Pearl, who is priceless.

Nothing Compares to Jesus

In Tuesday’s daily devotional, the Word teaches us that nothing is more valuable than having Christ. The world offers nothing that compares to Him. To walk with Jesus, be willing to give up worldly hindrances for He is life itself. In today’s daily devotion, when you have Jesus, you have the Pearl of great price.
