Overwatch BlizzCon 2026 Updates: A New Hero and Two Reworks
BlizzCon always delivers when it comes to announcements for Blizzard Entertainment games. BlizzCon 2026 was no different. The opening ceremony had everything you could ask for: from a new Heroes of the Storm character to a StarCraft Universe open-world shooter. Overwatch was not left out. With a new hero and two hero reworks in the current roster, there is plenty to discuss.
Overwatch’s Newest Hero: Doctrine
Blizzard revealed the ninth hero releasing in 2026. Doomfist, joined by Sombra, Reaper, and Widowmaker, set out on a mission. They looked to break one of Doomfist’s old friends, Doctrine, out of where he was being held. They succeeded, and now Doctrine is part of the Overwatch roster. Although only briefly. Doctrine is available to play during his hero trial. It is the first hero trial for Overwatch since Anran at the beginning of the year. The trial lasts for three days.
Doctrine is a support hero. He can deal damage to enemies or heal your teammates. He has limited mobility, but can empower his primary fire and abilities with his infuse. His ultimate is the first ability to remove a portion of an enemy’s health bar. It is not permanent. However, it is deadly under the right conditions.
Two More Hero Reworks
Sombra and Roadhog are no strangers to reworks. They have gone through the wringer during their time on the roster. Next season brings more reworks.
Sombra is becoming a support hero. Her primary fire, Translocator, and Ultimate remain the same. However, her hack can now heal allies. It heals allies over time and has two charges. She can also weaken targets.
Roadhog is getting a new ability called Trash Compactor. It can absorb projectiles, similar to D.Va’s defence matrix. It can also knock back enemies and knock Roadhog back. They have changed his primary fire to a double shot. It is meant to nerf his one-shot hook combo. Take a Breather is largely the same, with some adjustments. It has more burst healing, but a lower damage reduction.
Sombra moving to a support hero will have a knock-on effect for many. Some Sombra mains might not stick with the hero. Others will need to learn a new role. Regardless, everyone will have to get used to Sombra in the Support role.
Players tested both heroes’ reworks at BlizzCon. At the time of writing, content creators have released videos on both reworks. The hero reworks come out with the next Overwatch Season.
Another Support Awaits
The final hero released in 2026 is another support hero. Little is known about them. Overwatch did reveal that the new hero is an Omnic dressed in Sherlock Holmes-esque attire.
Earn a Mythic Skin For Free
If players log in between now and October 5th, they can earn a free Mythic Skin from seasons 1-14. All they have to do is play one game to earn the Mythic Voucher. The Voucher will purchase every level of the skin. If you own every eligible Mythic skin, you get 50 Mythic Prisms instead.
Next Season Launch
