It’s time for your Wednesday morning daily devotional. Proverbs 31:10-31 describes the qualities of a virtuous woman. Although these are excellent attributes, some are designed for the ancient Middle Eastern woman. In today’s daily devotional, women can adapt these models to modern times as they understand what being a virtuous woman in our society looks like.
Same Qualities
When the descriptions begin in verse 10, being priceless, trustworthy, and good to one’s husband are definite qualities for today’s women. If you’re not quite there, make it your goal. However, in verse 13, King Lemuel’s mother praises her for seeking wool and flax. In some less developed societies, this may be normal, but most modern women don’t seek these items.
Clothing and food are essential to the modern woman, so she finds the best places to acquire them. It may mean going to the mall, ordering online, or stopping by the grocery or health food store. In your daily devotional, if you’re not seeking wool and flax in their raw forms, you’re not disqualified from being a virtuous woman.
More Resources
Bringing your food from afar can mean ordering groceries from Amazon. Don’t overthink being a virtuous woman if you don’t rise while “it’s yet night” to take care of your household. You may be proficient enough by day and can sleep peacefully through the night. Today, you can order prepared meals or those that require little prep time. Most likely, selecting animals to slaughter isn’t a thing, so you have more time to fellowship with the Lord.
You probably don’t “consider a field” or plant vineyards, or even live in a grape-harvesting region where private vineyards are normal. You may not be familiar with agriculture or growing crops at all. In this daily devotional, even if you’re busy, you have quick resources, like Christian apps and 24/7 uplifting messages.
God’s Power

As a woman of God, you must “be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” Scripture includes many examples, such as Deborah, a prophetess and judge, who led the nation with wisdom because she heard from God. Esther became a queen whose prayer and planning saved her nation and destroyed her enemy. Also, Ruth, a Moabitess, followed Naomi to Bethlehem and accepted Israel’s God. Becoming a daughter of Zion, she was the great-grandmother of David; therefore, she was in the ancestral line of Christ.
Ministry Gifts
Women in ministry have more open doors and serve in all fivefold gifts. A great example is Nancy Dufresne, preacher, teacher, evangelist, and prophet, who also served as a pastor. She has held almost every fivefold office. Minister Dufresne leads Jesus the Healer crusades throughout the year, drawing people around the world. In your daily devotional, your strength as a virtuous woman today may be stretched in different areas that look nothing like ancient times. But like women of the past, you have God’s power to accomplish whatever task He places before you.
Your Own Works Will Praise You
In Wednesday’s daily devotional, when God gifts you with ministerial gifts, serve with wisdom and kindness. Proverbs 31:26 says, “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.” Leading with kindness requires walking in love. Paul affirms in 1 Corinthians 13:2, “And though I have the gift of prophecy . . . and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. The original Greek word for charity is love. In today’s daily devotional, be among the daughters who’ve done virtuously, as a woman who fears the Lord. Your own works will praise you in the gates in this present time.
