Happy Monday! It’s time for your daily devotional. Proverbs 31 opens with “words from King Lemuel.” The name means “belonging to God.” Jewish legend says it refers to Solomon; however, historians believe it was written after Solomon’s time. In today’s daily devotional, the mother is a great example of wisdom passed down through generations.

Advising a Son

In verses 2-9, a queen mother advises her son, the king, not to be obsessed with women because it’ll steer him away from God. David lusted after Bathsheba, which clouded his judgment and led to Uriah’s murder. She warns him against loving wine and strong drink. A drunken king won’t lead and judge righteously. In your daily devotional, this passage is meant for a king, and Jesus has made you a king and priest unto God.

A Virtuous Woman

In verses 10-24, learn from a wise mother who desires her son to seek a godly wife as she describes a virtuous woman. She’s like a rare jewel, endowed with wisdom and gifts. She’s trustworthy, and her husband’s honor and reputation are safe with her. Ever faithful and consistent, she’ll handle the finances and household wisely.

In verse 13, “She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.” She’s a hard worker who’ll make sure she has everything needed to run her home efficiently. In this daily devotional, work “willingly,” or cheerfully, as a woman of God, to ensure your home has the most loving environment for your family.

Makes Wise Decisions

In verse 14, she continues: “She is like merchants’ ships” that go back and forth with effort and regularity. If she has to rise at night to prepare food for her family, she does so. The attention given to her family is characteristic of her. She treats others with kindness, including those under her authority.

When it comes to large purchases, she considers every detail. After purchasing a property, she makes it profitable. She doesn’t hesitate to get her hands dirty; she does whatever her household needs. In your daily devotional, you don’t have to be married to be virtuous. When you’re faithful, hardworking, and consistent, your virtue will be evident to all who observe you.

Strong and God-fearing

In daily devotional, a woman flexes her arm to show she's strong and confident.

The mother calls this woman strong, not someone addicted to pampering. She doesn’t lead with her looks, but has many valuable attributes that will complement her husband and family, so “she girdeth her loins.” In other words, she faces challenges with confidence.

She knows she can do all things through Christ who strengthens her. With her knowledge, she chooses the best merchandise and finishes lengthy projects. In this daily devotional, as a god-fearing woman, you follow the Master who calls you to righteousness.

Hard-working and Prepared

In verse 18, “She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.” She knows how to use technology and the tools available to her. She uses the spindle and distaff to make thread. With both hands, she does fine work. She helps the less fortunate. She’ll make sure her family is prepared for harsh weather. She dresses well and compliments her husband, a community leader. She’s an entrepreneur who uses her talents to supply others.

You’re a Woman of Faith and Integrity

In Monday’s daily devotional, the king’s mother asks, “Who can find a virtuous woman?” They’re not everywhere. But it’s not about checking off this description’s boxes. You fit this mold when you’re committed to God and your family. In today’s daily devotional, you may not sew or purchase property. However, as a woman of faith and integrity, you’re indeed a virtuous woman.
