It’s time for your Thursday morning daily devotional. When the Lord gives you specific instructions, you should carry them out for the best outcome. The Lord made a covenant with Abraham, promising He would bless his descendants. God is true to His word, but He requires their obedience. In this daily devotional, obedience to God brings healing to your body.
Holy, Chosen, and Special
In Deuteronomy 7, God calls Israel to holiness; therefore, they aren’t to take on the lifestyle and habits of the Canaanites, whose land they’ll possess. God instructs Israel to destroy them completely. The Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, and other nations living in the land are “greater and mightier” than Israel, yet no match for God. After God delivers their enemies, they’re to “utterly destroy them.”
He gives them several other directives: “make no covenant with them,” show them no mercy, and make no marriages with them. God doesn’t want Israel to turn to other gods; He calls them holy, chosen, and special, “above all people that are upon the face of the earth.” In your daily devotional, God loves you so much; His commandments protect you and keep you safe.
The Faithful God
Israel’s covenant God confirms His love for them and the oath He swore to their fathers. Therefore, He brought them out of Egypt with a mighty hand, showing His faithfulness: “The Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.”
He admonishes them to keep His statutes, judgments, and commands. Then He promises to keep“the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers.” In this daily devotional, God offers you what the world cannot give you: faithfulness, love, and mercy.
God’s Promises Are Yours

In verse 13, God promises to love, bless, and multiply Israel. How many times have couples stood at the altar and promised to love each other, but they don’t fulfill that promise? How many contracts or agreements have been signed in which parties make promises but don’t keep them? But when the covenant-keeping God makes promises, His word doesn’t return void.
Promising to bless Israel above all people, God offers them health: “And the Lord will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.” In your daily devotional, God’s promises are too great to pass up. Today, you have a greater covenant, and all God’s promises are yours.
Healing for Your Body
Who can argue that healing isn’t God’s will when He says that He will take away all sickness? If a better covenant doesn’t have this, it’s not better. Better includes the former plus more. Egypt had horrible and malignant diseases that ravaged its people, such as dysentery, parasitic infections, malaria, and tuberculosis, which were all common.
However, God promises that none of those diseases would come on them. Israel’s health would depend on their obedience to God. He alone would eliminate the stress and anxiety of suffering with sickness and disease. In your daily devotional, God’s love for you provides healing for your body and rest for your soul.
It Starts With Your Obedience
In Thursday’s daily devotional, God says that instead of Israel contracting awful diseases, their enemies would be afflicted by them. God can turn things around for you when you walk in obedience to His Word. Today, you have a new covenant, built on better promises, including healing for your body. And like the children of Israel, it starts with obedience.
