Happy Friday! It’s time for your daily devotional. In John 12, they waved palm branches and celebrated Jesus as He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. Amid the attention, His mission was foremost. It was a bittersweet time because of His commitment to the Father’s will and His love for the disciples He would leave behind. In today’s daily devotional, Jesus loves you, and His words to you are life.
A Thunderous Voice
Jesus’ language speaks of His departure: “the hour is come,” and “unless a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die.” He also speaks of eternal life and following Him. He talks candidly of His dilemma in verse 27: “Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.”
Jesus pours out His soul, as He prepares for the cross ahead. He says, “Father, glorify thy name.” Then the Father spoke from heaven in a thunderous voice: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” Those around Him heard God’s voice thunder, while others believed it was an angel. In your daily devotional, when God speaks, you must believe.
Son of God
Jesus tells them the voice spoke not for His sake, but for theirs. God’s voice confirmed Jesus as the Son of God. Jesus will defeat Satan, but His mission involves the cross: “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” This points to the manner of His death. The crowd doesn’t understand Jesus’ words; they contend that the law says Christ abides forever. They ask, “Who is this Son of man?” In this daily devotional, anyone who questions who Jesus is rather than believing His word lacks faith.
Light of the World

In verse 35, Jesus says that they have the light for only a little while; therefore, “walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you.” Without Him, you’d stumble in darkness. He continues in verse 36, confirming they must believe in the light to be “the children of light.” Jesus discerns the unbelief in their hearts.
Verse 37 says, “But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him.” They are privileged to be part of the generation that saw Jesus walk the earth and perform miracles, signs, and wonders that books can’t contain. However, they sadly don’t believe. In your daily devotional, don’t let unbelief corrupt your faith.
Blinded to Truth
John 12:40 quotes Isaiah, who prophesied Israel’s unbelief seven centuries earlier: “He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted.” Because of their lack of faith and disobedience, their eyes were blinded to the truth.
Yet Jesus’ ministry was so powerful that He had elite secret followers: “Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue.” In this daily devotional, if you won’t confess Jesus before men, He won’t confess you before His Father.
Jesus Commands You to be Faithful
In Friday’s daily devotional, although they believe in Jesus, the religious leaders’ love of praise causes them to fear man more than God. Jesus declares that He hasn’t spoken His own words but those of His Father. In today’s daily devotional, Jesus commands you to be faithful, for His commands are “life everlasting.
