It’s Wednesday and time for your daily devotional. Psalm 132 is a Song of Ascents composed by Solomon. He honors David, who was passionate about building God’s house. When desiring to do a great work for God, trust His plan. In today’s daily devotional, your vision must match God’s. Then rejoice, for God gets the glory.
God Gives Direction
This song begins by celebrating Israel’s greatest king. Verse 1 says, “Lord, remember David, and all his afflictions.” From a ruddy shepherd boy to the second king of Israel, David came a long way. However, his steps weren’t easy. Often great elevation comes with great suffering. Of all the adversities that happened to David, being persecuted by Saul was one of the most evil, unprovoked periods.
When discouraged, David trusted God for deliverance. Solomon remembers: “How he sware unto the Lord, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob.” Determined to build God’s house, David made it his mission not to rest until it was done. In your daily devotional, whatever you do for God, do it with all your might. God will give you clear direction when you start moving.
Entering God’s House
David was zealous for the things of God, and longed to bring the ark of the covenant, which had been lost during Saul’s reign, to Jerusalem. Verse 6 says, “Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.” While in Ephratah, or Bethlehem, news came that the ark was found and brought to Kirjath-jearim, which means “city of woods.”
In verse 7, as the pilgrims ascended to Jerusalem, their voices rang out as they anticipated God’s temple: “We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.” They couldn’t contain their joy over entering God’s house to worship Him. In this daily devotional, there’s nothing like God’s presence. In His presence, you have fullness of joy.
The Presence of God
Verse 8 says, “Arise, O Lord, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.” Even though the temple and the ark were permanent fixtures, the pilgrims still commemorated their dedication. The temple symbolized a permanent home, or rest, for God on earth, representing His presence with His covenant people Israel. In Psalm 68.1, David sang of God rising as His enemies dispersed: “Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him.”
After God gave David rest from battles, he built an elaborate house for himself. Then he felt remorse that God’s house hadn’t been built and desired to build it. Then he’d place the ark within the Holy of Holies. In your daily devotional, celebrate God’s house each time you enter it. It represents God’s presence with you.
Holiness Unto the Lord
In this daily devotional, Solomon exults in verse 9: “Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.” The priests’ divine office set them apart. Dressed in their holy vestments, they were part of the temple’s aesthetic; their garments signified their consecration. The white linen symbolized purity, and the high priest’s colorful garments, with his ephod and crown, represented Israel’s twelve tribes and his holiness unto the Lord.
Passionate About Doing God’s Work
In Wednesday’s daily devotional, proclaim that the feet of those who serve God’s house are beautiful. Serve God’s house with joy, and come into alignment with His plan. In today’s daily devotional, have a passion for doing God’s work and trust His vision, glorifying Him for bringing things to pass.
