Paramount+ Lands Three British A24 Series for November
A24 built its reputation on film, but the studio’s television arm is about to get a lot more visible for American audiences. Paramount+ has acquired U.S. and select regional streaming rights to three British A24 original series, first reported by Cord Cutters News, with all three set to debut in early November.
The trio includes It Gets Worse, Major Players, and The Ministry of Time, each already produced in the UK and now crossing over to a major American platform.
What’s Actually Coming
It Gets Worse, created and executive produced by Leo Rich, follows three friends grappling with their love lives and their will to live. The cast includes Emily Fairn, Olive Gray, Sean Delaney, Dane Williams, India Mullen, and John Tothill, with guest appearances from Andrew Scott, Lena Dunham, and Amelia Dimoldenberg.
Major Players, co-written by Molly Manning Walker and Yasmin Joseph, centers on two girls launching a women’s soccer team.
The Ministry of Time is adapted from Kaliane Bradley’s novel, which landed on the New York Times bestseller list. The story follows Sophy, played by Aoife Hinds, after she gets a promotion in the civil service and is recruited into a secret government program to help a time traveller adjust to the present. Billy Howle plays Commander Graham Gore, the time traveller at the center of the story.
Why Paramount+ Is Making This Move
Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals at Paramount+, framed the deal as part of a broader effort to stock the platform with distinctive programming. For over a decade, A24 has produced some of the most exhilarating and thought-provoking independent series and films, Wiseman said in announcing the partnership.
That statement lines up with where Paramount+ appears to be headed: building out its library through a mix of in-house shows and outside partnerships rather than relying solely on one pipeline. Picking up finished British series lets the platform add buzzy, awards-adjacent content without footing the full production bill from scratch.
A24’s Television Ambitions
A24 has spent years cultivating a specific brand in film, one built on distinctive voices and unconventional storytelling. Bringing that same sensibility to episodic television, especially through British productions, signals the studio wants a foothold in prestige TV the same way it carved one out in theaters.
The guest-star wattage on It Gets Worse, with names like Andrew Scott and Lena Dunham popping up, doesn’t hurt either. That kind of casting tends to pull in casual viewers who might not otherwise seek out a British dramedy about existential dread.
What’s Still Unknown
Paramount+ hasn’t detailed which regional markets outside the U.S. will get access to the three series, nor has it clarified whether all three will drop simultaneously in early November or roll out on a staggered schedule. Episode counts for each show also haven’t been made public.
