Happy Monday! It’s time for your daily devotional. One of the most intellectual books in the Bible is Romans. Written by Paul, it argues that mankind’s greatest need is salvation and that God provides it in His Son. Without God’s intervention, man is lost, for even the law is inadequate. In today’s daily devotional, thank God for Jesus, your only hope of salvation.
Not Ashamed of the Gospel
Paul begins Romans by acknowledging that they’re all called by Christ. He is himself a “debtor” to preach the gospel. Not ashamed of the gospel, he calls it the “power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.” Paul refers to both Jews and Greeks, as there’s no distinction in Christ.
The gospel leads all men to faith, for righteousness is through faith alone; Paul quotes Habakkuk 2:4: “The just shall live by faith.” God made man an intellectual being and placed signs of His existence all around Him. In your daily devotional, God is against sin and unrighteousness, yet He has provided a way out through His Son.
In Need of Salvation
Some people balk at terms such as “obedience,” “unrighteousness of man,” or “God’s wrath,” all terms Paul uses to show man’s rebellion against God. In Adam, man became a sinner in need of salvation. Mankind’s state deteriorated, and they no longer glorified God or were thankful; their hearts became darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became fools, served idols, and changed God’s truth into a lie by becoming more man-conscious than God-conscious. In today’s daily devotional, you may know someone in a cycle of sin that’s pulling them further away from God. All isn’t lost; God loves them, and He has provided them a way out.
Righteousness Through Christ
Although God hates sin, He doesn’t force His righteousness upon anyone. God makes righteousness through Christ accessible to all men, even though they walked away in disobedience. God gave the law to expose sin, so that man would recognize his disobedience. The law was never meant to make him righteous, but to give man “the knowledge of sin.”
In Romans 2:23, Paul declares. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” However, God’s goodness extended far beyond showing man his problem; it gave him a way to resolve it. Instead of receiving God’s wrath, man has been justified by His grace, “through the redemption that’s in Christ Jesus.” In this daily devotional, your sins have been canceled by the blood of Jesus, and you’ve been declared righteous.
Justified by Faith
God declares both Jews and Gentiles to be justified by faith, but the law shouldn’t be dismissed as irrelevant. It served its purpose without making man righteous. Abraham, who was before the law, was declared righteous by God because of his faith.
Romans 4:11 proclaims, “And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe.” So clearly, God intended righteousness to be by faith, not by the law. In your daily devotional, God used Abraham, not the law, as an example of righteousness by faith.
God Has Provided You the Way of Salvation
In Monday’s daily devotional, God had the Master plan to save mankind from their unrighteousness and make them righteous in Christ. Man’s attempts at his own righteousness were futile; even obeying the law proved unsuccessful. In today’s daily devotional, there’s only one way to salvation. His name is Jesus Christ.
