Happy Friday! It’s time for your daily devotional. Many look forward to Friday while decrying Monday or the earlier weekdays. Life is a precious gift that you’re to live by faith. In Psalm 31, David cried out to God to preserve his life from those who sought to take it. In today’s daily devotional, praise God for each new day and rejoice in God’s goodness.
Believe God for a Breakthrough
David may’ve composed Psalm 31 when Saul was pursuing him, as he faced many hardships. When Saul discovered he was hiding in Keilah, David narrowly escaped, moving from place to place. While in the wilderness of Maon, David and Saul had a near showdown as both camps moved on opposite sides of a mountain without seeing each other. Weary of being on the run, David endured despairing conditions, but kept moving by faith, trusting God’s protection.
In verse 4, he says, “Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.” David relies on God’s might to save him. In your daily devotional, when going through persecution, don’t break down, but by faith, believe God for a breakthrough.
Your Faith will Sustain You
Trusting God for deliverance, David knows one false move could put him within Saul’s grasp. In verse 9, he calls out in distress: “Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.” David experiences a range of emotions as he goes from prayers to complaints to confidence and praise.
In your walk with the Lord, you’ll feel both on top of the mountain and down in the valley, but your faith will sustain you. In this daily devotional, as you walk by faith, you’ll learn, like David, that the same God who’s with you on the mountain is with you in the valley.
Keep on Moving
In verse 10, David cries out: “My life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing”; then in verse 17, he prays, “deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.” Then in verse 19, he bursts into praise: “Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee.” He continues in verse 20, saying, “Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man.” In David’s fervor, he remembers God’s goodness.
He has faith that God will save him; although some days look bleak, he continues to trust in the Lord. In today’s daily devotional, there’s a saying that when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Never lose your faith in God. If it falters, pick it back up and keep on moving.
God Keeps You Safe
David nears the close of his psalm with a word for those struggling with mixed feelings during times of trial. In verse 23, he exclaims, “O love the Lord, all ye his saints: for the Lord preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.” David has faith that God will not only keep him safe, but also that his enemy will face punishment. In your daily devotional, by faith, turn your enemies over to God.
Rejoice in Each New Day
In Friday’s daily devotional, David concludes in verse 24: “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.” When you walk in faith, God turns your pain into praise. In today’s daily devotional, rejoice in each new day God preserves you to see.
