Daily Devotional Wednesday Wisdom | July 29, 2026
It’s Wednesday, and here’s your daily devotional. At a time when the rulers of Samaria and Jerusalem were leading God’s people astray, He sent Micah to speak of a coming Saviour who’d be the true Ruler of Israel. The place of his birth would be Bethlehem Ephratah; from this small town would emerge a mighty Leader. In today’s daily devotional, God gives hope to believers in the midst of calamity.
A Shepherd Will Watch Over Them
Micah pronounces a time of suffering and displacement when the land will lie in ruins, and the people will be scattered, but God will bring them home again. At that time, a Shepherd will watch over them. His rule will be characterized by strength, majesty, and peace, and He will be “great unto the ends of the earth.” If Nimrod’s army rises against Israel again, they’ll be defeated, but God’s people will be blessed. They’ll be like a “lion among the beasts of the forest.”
No one will be able to stop them. In verse 9, he declares, “Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.” In your daily devotional, you are a terror to your adversary, and when you resist Him, he will flee.
Don’t Fear Your Enemies
God desires that His people live righteously; because of Israel’s unrighteousness, they were stripped from their homeland. But God fights against those who fight against Israel. Sweeping upon them like rain, He will annihilate Assyria’s horses and chariots. He will obliterate their cities and their strongholds. He will crush their idols and the groves where they worship.
In verse 15, God proclaims, “And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.” In this daily devotional, don’t fear your enemies who wouldn’t win against God. They’re on the losing side.
Continue to Follow the Lord
In 6:1, Micah announces that God has a charge against Israel, and has been building His case. In verse 3, “O my people, what have I done unto thee?” God wants answers for their apostasy. He wants to know the reasons they abandoned His goodness and mercy. Jesus said in John 8:31, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.” Paul says that we are to continue in His grace and faith.
“The key word is continue”; there’s never a time to unhook. Hosea 6:3 says, “Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD.” In your daily devotional, when you continue to follow the Lord, you’ll grow in power as a believer, walking by faith and living in His abundance.
God Has Given You His Word
God reminds them of His mighty works, such as deliverance from Egypt and protection in the wilderness from Balak, who offered Balaam money to curse them. He rejects burnt offerings of calves and rams that do not please Him, nor do tons of olive oil nor their sacrifices. God doesn’t want empty acts of worship. In your daily devotional, God has instructed you in His word.
God’s Word Declares His Truth
In Wednesday’s daily devotional, verse 8 clarifies, “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” In this daily devotional, God has given you His word, declaring His foundational truths, giving instruction, correction, and direction for your life. Even in calamity, God’s word gives hope.
