Happy Friday! It’s time for your daily devotional. In Psalm 84, the Sons of Korah magnify God in His temple, which is dedicated to His name. The Lord gave instructions for His holy temple; David prepared for it, and Solomon built it. In today’s daily devotional, you are God’s temple, and His presence abides in you.

Strength to Strength

There’s a saying that when you’re present with God, you’re absent from worry. In God’s presence, there’s fullness of joy. Nothing but pleasures are in His presence, so there’s nothing that can weigh you down. He’s the lifter of your soul. Verse 8 says, “ They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.”

When people traveled to Jerusalem, they’d pass through the Valley of Baca, a dry place, which was only a foreshadowing of God’s spiritual downpour in Jerusalem. When you’re in God’s presence, expect an overflow of joy. In your daily devotional, you’re not merely existing day to day, but you’re living from strength to strength.  

House of Prayer

Jesus called His Father’s House the house of prayer, for prayer was continuous there. The priests would light censers daily, and the incense would go up, representing the prayers of the people. Prayer should have a prominent role in your life because communication builds your relationship with God. Prayer shows a dependence upon God, which eliminates pride, for when you pray, you acknowledge that you need Him.

In verse 8, the psalmist prays, “O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob.” In this daily devotional, learn to call upon the Lord, believing that He hears and answers prayer. 

Shield and Protector

In verse 9, as the psalmist prays, he desires God to look upon His people: “Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.” He acknowledges that God is Israel’s Shield or Protector. In Genesis 15:1, God calms Abraham’s fears and doubts: “Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield.”

Looking upon one’s face requires closeness and intimacy. As you draw near to Him, He draws nearer to you. And you see yourself as God sees you, as His anointed one. In your daily devotional, you’re not just a poor sinner meandering through a life of misery and toil; you’re His anointed, the righteousness of God in Christ.  

Grace and Glory

The psalmist goes on to exclaim that being in God’s house is better than being anywhere on earth. He declares that he’d rather be a doorkeeper in God’s temple than to live among the wicked. Again, he expresses great longing and desire to be in God’s house and in His presence. As the song says, “There is nothing like the presence of the Lord.”

When you seek God, you find Him, and being in His presence makes you long for Him even more. Verse 11 says, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” In this daily devotional, God doesn’t hold back anything from you. He is Light, protection, mercy, and His glory encompasses who He is. He makes it all accessible to His anointed.

You’re Blessed By Trusting in the Lord

In Friday’s daily devotional, Psalm 84 ends with, “O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.”  You’re blessed by trusting in the Lord, for the Bible says to trust in Him with all your heart. In today’s daily devotional, trusting God is your first step in experiencing more of God’s presence.
