Showtime

Showtime shows and originals, the premium network behind Dexter, Billions and more.

Total Apex Take

Showtime the network is basically gone, folded into Paramount+ with Showtime, and the brand's slow disappearance says a lot about what happens to prestige cable once the parent company needs it to be a bundle feature instead of a destination.

Paramount merged Showtime's content directly into Paramount+ rather than keeping it as a standalone premium tier, and shows that once would have anchored the Showtime brand — "Yellowjackets," the Michael C. Hall-led "Dexter: Original Sin" prequel — now exist mostly as Paramount+ marquee titles with Showtime reduced to a watermark. "Billions" wrapped, and the network's once-reliable pipeline of auteur-driven dramas has largely dried up under the Paramount Skydance ownership shuffle.

Our take is that Showtime's fade is less about quality than corporate math: Paramount needed a streaming bundle story more than it needed a prestige-cable identity, and Showtime's library was the easiest thing to repurpose. What's worth watching is whether "Dexter: Original Sin" and "Yellowjackets" get enough ongoing investment to survive a merger that was clearly built around cost-cutting, not creative ambition.

About Showtime

Showtime is an American premium television network owned by Paramount Skydance, historically positioned as HBO's chief direct competitor in prestige original programming. Since the 2020s, Showtime's content has increasingly been folded into the broader Paramount+ streaming service alongside a rebrand of the combined offering.

The network built a reputation for morally complex antihero-driven dramas and boundary-pushing comedies, producing several long-running signature series across its history.
