Sebastian Koch has signed on as a series regular for Apple TV’s upcoming action thriller “Disavowed,” Deadline reported Oct. 21. The German actor, known for “Never Look Away” and “Black Book,” joins a cast led by James Marsden, though his character hasn’t been revealed.
Koch is the latest addition to an ensemble that has grown steadily since Apple TV ordered the series in May.
The Role and Casting Details
Who Koch will play remains under wraps. It’s not yet clear whether his character ties directly into the show’s central CIA manhunt or runs on a separate thread.
The Disavowed Cast and Story So Far
“Disavowed” comes from Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the writing duo behind “Iron Man” and “Uncharted.” Marsden stars as Brad Griffin, a celebrated CIA case officer who’s fired in the middle of a worldwide hunt for the assassin who killed his colleague. Cut loose from the intelligence world, Griffin sets his sights on the $15 million federal bounty on the killer’s head.
Koch joins Marsden, Norman Reedus, Sylvia Hoeks, Bokeem Woodbine, Noma Dumezweni, Daniel Zovatto, Mia Tharia and Sonita Henry.
Apple Studios produces with Blue Marble Pictures, the company behind Apple’s “Pachinko.” Marcum, Holloway, Tom Spezialy, Michelle MacLaren, Rebecca Hobbs and Marsden are executive producers, along with Blue Marble’s Theresa Kang and Caroline Garity. MacLaren, whose credits include “Breaking Bad” and “The Morning Show,” is set to direct the first two episodes.
Koch’s Spy-Thriller Track Record
Koch’s casting adds another internationally recognized performer to the lineup. He played Otto Düring during the fifth and sixth seasons of Showtime’s “Homeland,” a role that put him in the middle of the same kind of high-stakes espionage storytelling that drives “Disavowed.” He also appeared in Steven Spielberg’s Cold War thriller “Bridge of Spies,” and his credits include “The Danish Girl” and “Bel Canto.”
What’s Next for Disavowed
Apple TV hasn’t announced a premiere date, episode count or production schedule for “Disavowed.” With MacLaren attached to direct the opening episodes and the cast still growing, more casting and production news is likely on the way.
