Marvel Studios' "X-Men" Reboot Grabs Asa Germann To Play Angel

Marvel Studios has made another potential casting move for the MCU’s “X-Men” reboot, which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028. Asa Germann, known for his roles in “Gen V” and “Scream 7,” is in final talks to reportedly join the mutants and take on the role of Angel. Marvel declined to comment on the alleged news.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first outlet to report on Germann’s potential casting in the reboot. Germann already has a resume with superhero experience, as he played Samuel “Sam” Riordan in “Gen V.” The satirical superhero television series is a spinoff of “The Boys” and centered on young, superpowered adults attending Godolkin University School of Crimefighting. Germann originally tested for Cyclops, but the role went to Kit Connor. However, Marvel Studios has apparently liked Germann’s work on the audition and reportedly offered him the role of Angel.

The feathered wings arching from his back let him fly, a power that has twice made it to the screen under Fox: Cayden Boyd appeared as a young Warren in 2006’s “X-Men: The Last Stand,” with Ben Foster taking the adult role, and Ben Hardy carried the part through 2016’s “X-Men: Apocalypse,” where the character’s wings are replaced with metal by Apocalypse, and he becomes Archangel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jake Schreier is directing the feature, and he already has past work with Marvel Studios. He directed 2025’s “Thunderbolts*,” which was released in theaters last year on May 2, 2025. During a chat with Entertainment Weekly’s studio at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, James McAvoy, who played 20th Century Fox’s young adult version of Professor X, wished Abbott and the rest of the initial cast.

He said in his chat with Entertainment Weekly, “Good luck to him! Good luck, good luck, good luck. I just wish them well and good luck. I’m here to sell a different film, so I don’t really… [Marvel’s] got a massive publicity machine; they can sell their own [film]. But massive good luck to them!” McAvoy played Professor X in four Fox prequel movies, “X-Men: First Class,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “X-Men: Apocalypse,” and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix.” The initial lineup of some of the MCU’s “X-Men” cast was revealed at the D23 presentation on Aug. 14, 2026.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Schreier, and Sadie Sink, who is Jean Grey, were on stage together during the “X-Men” reboot presentation at D23. They then announced the initial roll cast at the presentation: Connor (Cyclops), Christopher Abbott (Professor X), Samara Weaving (Emma Frost), Inde Navarrette (Rogue), and Maya Boyd (Storm). Sink played Jean in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which was released in theaters on July 31, 2026. In a surprise, Adam Driver was revealed to be playing the villain Mr. Sinister. In the comics, the villain is a geneticist who gets obsessed with Cyclops and Jean because he believes that their DNA can give birth to the ultimate mutant.

In his video announcement at the D23 presentation, Driver said in a statement picked up by Marvel.com, “When Kevin told me to show up for X-Men, I assumed he meant on set. So instead of being there in California, I’m here at Pinewood [Studios] on this very lonely soundstage. Kevin and I have been talking for years about maybe joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And I think we finally found the perfect film at the perfect time.

So I’m very excited to be playing Mag…. Nope. Even better. Nathaniel Milbury. So I’ll be right here, waiting for everybody to show up.” The next upcoming MCU film to hit theaters is “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is scheduled to be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
