Samara Weaving Reportedly Brings Emma Frost to Life in Marvel’s Next X-Men Era
It looks like Marvel Studios has gotten closer to casting its team of mutants, as Deadline reported on Friday, July 31, that Samara Weaving has been cast in a major role in the upcoming “X-Men” reboot. Marvel returned to Comic-Con in Hall H two weeks ago to promote its upcoming slate; however, there was no official presentation on the mutants.
Samara Weaving To Play Emma Frost In “X-Men” Reboot
Marvel Studios has not publicly confirmed Weaving’s casting in the role. Deadline also reported that director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige placed Weaving in the role after meeting with other candidates. Feige already confirmed last year in Variety that the mutants will have a role in the MCU after 2027’s “Avengers: Secret Wars.” He told Variety, “Reboot is a scary word. Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline, we’re thinking along those lines. ‘X-Men’ is where that will happen next.”
Actors had auditioned for the role right after the July 4 holiday. Apparently, Weaving’s audition process came out on top. Frost first appeared in the X-Men comics in the 1980s and went from being a supervillain to becoming a crucial member of the X-Men. In addition, January Jones played the character in 2011’s “X-Men: First Class,” when 20th Century Fox had the film rights to the X-Men.
The latest news on Samara Weaving playing Frost will surely excite X-Men fans who have been clamoring for a new “X-Men” film since Disney bought Fox back in 2019. During the Fox run, the studio produced 13 films in total and underwent a timeline reset from 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” In that movie, Michael Fassbender’s Magneto revealed that Emma was one of the mutants who died off-screen.

Samara Weaving Has Been Busy In 2026
Weaving is already having an active 2026. She took over “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come,” the sequel to 2019’s “Ready or Not.” She took on the role of protagonist Grace MacCaullay in those movies. She also starred in IFC’s “Over Your Dead Body” and won an SXSW Audience Award, in which she co-starred with Jason Segel. Weaving starred in “Carolina Caroline,” a romantic crime thriller in June.
With Samara Weaving reportedly locked in for Emma Frost, attention will turn to the rest of the mutant roster and the film’s production timeline. In addition, “Obsession” star Inde Navarette recently confirmed that she had met with Schreier. She prasied Scherier for his work on “Thunderbolts*” while chatting with Variety’s “Up Next” podcast. She said on the podcast, “I thought what Jake brought to ‘Thunderbolts’ was what I used to love about Marvel. It was character-driven, and the whole time I just couldn’t stop yapping about how much I appreciated what he did with Marvel.”
Schreier’s attachment last spring signaled the studio’s intent to move forward, and the hiring of Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo to pen the screenplay suggested a desire for a fresh voice and approach. Fans and industry observers will be watching how the new “X-Men” film balances the franchise’s comic-book roots with Marvel Studios’ broader cinematic universe.
