24 Jump Street release date: Huge, hilarious 2027 return
The 24 Jump Street release date is Dec. 10, 2027, Sony Pictures announced Wednesday, Sept. 30. The studio also dated Ridley Scott’s “Treasure Island,” starring Hugh Jackman, for Nov. 11, 2027, putting both films in the 2027 holiday corridor, Variety reported.
24 Jump Street release date and cast
Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube return for 24 Jump Street, the third film in the R-rated comedy series, according to Variety, which first reported in June that the sequel was in the works. Rodney Rothman, a co-director of “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” will direct from a script he wrote with Hill and Meghan Malloy.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed “21 Jump Street” in 2012 and “22 Jump Street” in 2014, are back as producers. Neal H. Moritz, Tatum and Reid Carolin of Free Association, and Hill and Matt Dines of Strong Baby are also producing, Variety reported.
‘Treasure Island’ lands first on Nov. 11
Jackman plays the pirate Long John Silver in Scott’s take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Owen Cooper and Hugh Grant co-star. Jack Thorne, the Emmy-winning writer of “Adolescence,” wrote the script, and Scott produces with Michael Pruss through Scott Free, according to Variety.
The film “follows a young boy who uncovers the map to a legendary buried treasure,” TheWrap reported. Total Apex covered the project when Jackman and Scott first teamed up in June.
Other Sony release date changes
Besides 24 Jump Street, Sony also set or moved several other titles, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter:
- “The Surgeon” (April 2, 2027): Roshan Sethi directs Michelle Yeoh as a skilled doctor who is kidnapped and forced to operate on a mysterious patient. Martin Freeman also stars.
- “Narcs” (Aug. 20, 2027): “No Hard Feelings” writer John Phillips makes his directing debut with a coming-of-age comedy starring Mason Thames and Ella Bright.
- “Grandgear” (Jan. 14, 2028): “Godzilla Minus One” director Takashi Yamazaki’s English-language debut, from Bad Robot, moves up from Feb. 18, 2028, to take advantage of Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, TheWrap reported.
- “Helldivers” (June 9, 2028): Justin Lin’s video game adaptation, now starring Alan Ritchson following the departure of originally cast star Jason Momoa, shifts from Nov. 10, 2027.
The Jump Street franchise so far
The movies are based on the Fox police drama “21 Jump Street,” which ran from 1987 to 1991 and made Johnny Depp a star. Sony’s big-screen reboot paired Hill and Tatum as mismatched cops sent undercover at a high school.
The formula paid off. “21 Jump Street” earned about $201.6 million worldwide in 2012, and “22 Jump Street” topped it with roughly $331.3 million in 2014 against an $84.5 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo figures. The second film’s end credits imagined 21 more fake sequels, a joke that made the real 24 Jump Street a running punchline for more than a decade.
What’s next
