Daily Devotional Thoughtful Thursday | June 4, 2026
It’s Thursday, and time for your daily devotional. Jesus experienced rejection in His hometown of Nazareth. Luke 4:29 records that they thrust Him out of the city and tried to throw Him over a cliff. Jesus became famous teaching in the synagogues throughout Galilee, yet in His hometown there was fury. In today’s daily devotional, follow Jesus’s example by pressing through difficult times, for He supplies your needs.
Jesus Shows Compassion
Jesus’ popularity soared, reaching the attention of Herod, who’d heard of His miraculous works. His initial thought was that John the Baptist had risen from the dead. Herod had John imprisoned for speaking against him marrying his brother’s wife. Then he had John beheaded to keep an oath he’d made to her daughter. Jesus’ disciples took and buried John and then told Jesus.
Obviously grieved, Jesus retreated to a desert place; however, when people heard it, they followed Him. Instead of protecting His quiet time, He was compassionate toward them. In your daily devotional, no matter what you personally go through—grief, heartache, or pain—you must continue to show compassion to others.
He Healed Their Sick
Jesus had sent His disciples to preach the gospel throughout Israel, warning them that they’d be rejected in some places. After John was imprisoned, Jesus endured John questioning His identity. He had withstood the Pharisees who challenged Him, attributing His power to Beelzebub. Then He was rejected by His own townspeople, who tried to kill Him.
Yet Matthew 14:14 says, “And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.” A kind, compassionate Savior never stops caring for you. In this daily devotional, Jesus teaches you not to be immobilized by rejection, but to keep your eyes on the Lord.
They Need Not Depart

In verse 15, Jesus’ disciples began telling Him to send the multitude away so they could buy food since it was getting late. Instead of giving a quick benediction and releasing the crowd, Jesus said, “They need not depart; give ye them to eat.” Not only did Jesus heal them and feed them spiritually, but He also wanted to sustain their physical bodies. Jesus is concerned with every aspect of your being, desiring that your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved.
The disciples quickly informed Jesus that they only had five loaves and two fish among them. However, Jesus was unconcerned about the quantity of their provisions, replying, “Bring them hither to me.” In your daily devotional, never doubt what the Miracle Worker can do. When you bring your problem to Him, He can turn lack into abundance.
The Miraculous Happened
Jesus left the negative experiences behind Him, and pressed into His calling by doing what the Father sent Him to do. In verse 19, Jesus instructed them to sit down on the grass; then He “took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and broke, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.” A miracle happened before their eyes as the loaves and fish multiplied. In this daily devotional, expect nothing less than the miraculous when Jesus is near.
Trust Jesus to Meet Your Needs
In Thursday’s daily devotional, everyone ate and was filled, and there were twelve baskets full of leftover fragments. This wasn’t a small crowd; there were about 5000 men, and it included women and children, who possibly outnumbered the men. In this daily devotional, as Jesus leads with compassion, trust Him to meet your every need.
