Daily Devotional Thoughtful Thursday | July 16, 2026
It’s Thursday, and time for your daily devotional. Abel, Enoch, Noah, and Abraham are listed as examples of faith in Hebrews 11. Verse 13 says, “These all died in faith, not having received the promises.” Faith is believing God’s promises, whether you see them unfold in your lifetime or not. In today’s daily devotional, walking by faith makes you an example for future generations.
The Bible is Progressive Revelation
Abel was the second son of Adam, and his offering pleased God. No scripture in Genesis reveals what type of sacrifice God told Cain and Abel to bring. However, the Bible is progressive revelation. Hebrews 11:4 affirms, “By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain.”
One doesn’t move in faith without God because faith begins where God’s will is known. You can’t believe God for something He hasn’t made known to you. His Word reveals His will. In your daily devotional, when you know God’s Word, you know His will. And you can walk by faith.
Walking With God Each Day
Enoch, like Elijah, didn’t die; he was translated after having walked closely with God. Like Abraham, Enoch was a friend of God. Friends often share desires, plans, and secrets. It’s possible that God shared His vision for mankind or the world with Enoch. If so, some were things Enoch wouldn’t have seen, even though lifespans then were hundreds of years.
History doesn’t reveal details of their communication or how much of God’s wisdom and knowledge Enoch received; what is known is that, according to verse 5, Enoch walked by faith. In this daily devotional, follow Enoch’s example of shunning worldly influences by walking with God each day by faith.
Reverence and Obey God

Noah found grace in God’s eyes although he lived at a time when wickedness was rampant. With evil around him, Noah believed God. Verse 7 says, “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear.” Proverbs 9:10 proclaims, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” People of Noah’s day didn’t fear God; they were living outside His will. Yet Noah reverenced God and obeyed His instructions, demonstrating his faith.
Noah made preparations and built an ark; in the face of backlash, he “condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” In today’s daily devotional, you’re called to walk by faith. The world won’t support you, but obey God anyway. A popular gospel hymn, ” I’m Happy With Jesus Alone,” shows that earthly rejection mustn’t interfere with your faith in God.
The Friend of God
James 2:23 declares, “Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.” Abraham walked by faith, endured tests of obedience, and trusted God. The legacy he left to the world is remarkable. He left his country; he believed God for an heir, and he became the father of a multitude by faith.
He was willing to sacrifice his only son, of whom God said, “In Isaac shall thy seed be called.” God blessed Abraham because of his faith. In your daily devotional, say this out loud: “My faith is in God; I will trust and obey His Word.”
You’re to Keep Walking by Faith
In Thursday’s daily devotional, let Abel, Enoch, Noah, and Abraham be examples to you of walking by faith. In their times, these men chose to believe God despite cultural differences, criticism, and attacks. In today’s daily devotional, don’t let anything stop you from walking by faith.
