Daily Devotional Wednesday Wisdom | April 22, 2026
It’s Wednesday, and time for your daily devotional. The “I AM” statements reveal so much about who Jesus is to you as a believer. How comforting to know that He abides with you always. In today’s daily devotional, Jesus is your Vine, the Source that supplies you with abundant life. All you need to stay spiritually vibrant is in Him.
Abiding in the Vine
In John 15:1-5, Jesus stresses the importance of abiding in the Vine. In verse 6, Jesus gives a strict warning that whoever doesn’t abide in Him is plucked away, withers, and cast into hellfire. Many don’t like the mention of hell and avoid the subject; however, Jesus has much to say about it. Hell is a place you’re saved from. It was never meant for you but was prepared for the devil and his angels. When you stay connected to the Vine, your future is bright, not tormenting.
Jesus taught a parable about a rich man who died and went to hell, while Lazarus, the beggar at His gate, went to heaven. As the rich man was in torments, Lazarus was being comforted. Although the rich man cried out for water and a warning for his brothers to avoid hellfire, his requests were denied. In your daily devotional, hell is eternal punishment for sin, but there is eternal life in the Vine.
Ask What You Will

In verse 7, Jesus teaches you that by abiding in Him and His word, you can ask what you will in His name when you pray, and it’ll be done. When you’re connected to the Vine, your will aligns with His, and you ask for what pleases Him. The Vinedresser, your Heavenly Father, is glorified when you bear much fruit. It’s a sign that you’re a disciple who’s connected to the Vine.
You’re not trying to do your own thing by disconnecting like the Prodigal Son who took his inheritance and left to live apart from his Father. Then he partied with strangers who wasted his money. Remembering the love and comfort of his father’s house, he came to his senses and returned. In this daily devotional, abiding in Him through prayer, study, and fellowship draws you closer each day.
Jesus’ Love for You
Jesus tells His disciples in verse 10 that God, who is love, has loved Him, and Jesus has extended that love to them. This is divine, pure love that flows from the Father to the Son and to you. Keeping Jesus’ commandments means you’re abiding in His love. Jesus, as your example, kept His Father’s commandments, yielding Himself in obedience. Philippians 2:8 says that Jesus became obedient unto death.
Joseph, who is a type of Christ in the Old Testament, showed obedience to Jacob and to God, and he was tremendously favored. While in Potiphar’s house, he refused to sin because he was committed to living righteously. You are the righteousness of God in Christ; therefore, you remain in Him. In this daily devotional, love leads to obedience and abiding in the Vine.
You Have Fullness of Joy
In Wednesday’s daily devotional, verse 11, Jesus declares, “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” Jesus doesn’t bring despair, but joy. Psalm 16:11 says that in His presence is fullness of joy. The Kingdom of God is characterized by joy. In your daily devotional, as a believer, joy is a fruit that flows from the Spirit of God. You have access to unspeakable joy when you abide in the Vine.
