Xbox has revealed introductory pricing for Xbox cloud playtime, letting players stream games without a Game Pass subscription starting at $3.99 for 10 hours. The option is rolling out to Xbox Insiders now, ahead of a broader launch in November, according to Xbox Wire.

The pay-as-you-go system sells cloud playtime in set packs rather than requiring a recurring subscription. Xbox Insiders without an active Game Pass subscription can already buy in at introductory pricing, while the wider rollout to all users is set for November.

Xbox Cloud Playtime Pricing And Bundles

Xbox is offering three introductory packs: 10 hours for $3.99, 25 hours for $7.99 and 50 hours for $11.99, according to Xbox Wire. The largest pack works out to about 24 cents per hour.

Purchased hours do not expire and remain available until a player uses them. Every pack includes ad-free cloud gaming, shorter wait times and high-quality streaming, the company said. Xbox noted that availability, eligible games and features may vary by market, device and account, and that streaming requires owning a cloud-playable game or, for select titles, free-to-play access.

Xbox has also been testing a free, ad-supported cloud gaming option with Insiders since July. That tier limits play to games a user already owns, runs ads before sessions begin and caps sessions at one hour, according to Xbox Wire.

How It Compares With Game Pass Cloud Access

The pricing news arrives ahead of a separate change for Game Pass subscribers. Starting in November, Game Pass Essential will include five hours of cloud gaming per month, Game Pass Premium will include 10 hours, and Game Pass Ultimate will include 15 hours, Xbox announced Sept. 3.

Xbox said the new monthly limits will affect about 4% of Game Pass subscribers, citing the rising cost of providing cloud services. Subscribers who hit their monthly cap will be able to buy more playtime through the Xbox Store, though Xbox hasn’t confirmed whether those top-ups will match the introductory pricing for the pay-as-you-go packs.

The move effectively creates two paths to cloud streaming: a subscription with capped monthly hours through Game Pass, or standalone playtime packs for anyone who does not subscribe. Grand Theft Auto VI Streaming Rights

Microsoft has secured streaming rights for “Grand Theft Auto VI” on Xbox Cloud Gaming, The Verge reported Oct. 6. The outlet first described the deal as exclusive, but Matthew Ball, Xbox’s chief strategy officer, later said on X that the game “will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.” The Verge has since suggested the deal may cover Xbox console streaming only, meaning the web browsers and apps typically used for Xbox Cloud Gaming may not carry the game.

Neither Microsoft nor Rockstar Games has formally announced streaming plans for the title, which launches Nov. 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Availability And What’s Next

Xbox Insiders without a Game Pass subscription can buy cloud playtime at introductory pricing now. The full rollout, along with the new Game Pass monthly cloud limits, is scheduled for November. Xbox has labeled the current prices “introductory,” so they could change at full launch, and the company hasn’t said exactly when in November either change takes effect.
