Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage Round 4 Day 1 Preview: The West Has a Second Chance to Qualify

The West had two teams in the initial qualification matches at Worlds 2026. Neither could defeat their LCK counterparts. Movistar KOI and LYON get their second bite at the cherry. They face Eastern teams again. MKOI plays against the defending world champions, T1. LYON watched Team Liquid break the LCS’s seven-year streak of losses against Eastern teams. That should give them further confidence going into their match against Invictus Gaming.

  • Movistar KOI Versus T1

Movistar KOI Versus T1

Featured Matchup

Jojopyun Versus Faker

When the two teams met at Worlds 2025, Faker dominated the matchup. He got his iconic Azir in game one and showed why everyone bans Azir against T1. The Shuriman Emperor has fallen out of the meta. Jojopyun has had an up-and-down Worlds so far. He solo-killed Knight, but then got overzealous and died twice to the LPL mid laner. He brought out Diana against ShowMaker’s Syndra, but it failed. If he can get the advantage over Faker, MKOI can roam the map with him.

Predictions

T1 2-1 Movistar KOI

T1 has been inconsistent at Worlds. Their play during games varies. They started excellently against Dplus KIA. They failed to close out the game. They fell behind against CTBC Flying Oyster, but Keria caught Doggo twice, and the game ended. MKOI have already beaten BLG. They are in a similar form to their LEC Summer Playoffs run. Dplus KIA did swat them down, but there were some positive signs. Those signs can easily earn them a game against T1. However, if T1 hit Worlds form, the series will be over before it starts.

Featured Matchup

JiaQi Versus Berserker

IG needed JiaQi to pop off against Hanwha Life Esports. He delivered with a dominant performance. The young AD carry took on Gumayusi and beat him. He earned a kill on the previous Worlds Finals MVP before the minions had reached the lane. Berserker will have his work cut out for him in this series. He must keep up with JiaQi; otherwise, LYON will fall by the wayside. He was second-best against Ruler. He can not afford to repeat that performance. JiaQi is vital to IG’s success. If Berserker can outperform him, LYON’s qualification chances skyrocket.

Predictions

Invictus Gaming 1-2 LYON

IG has been on a monstrous run. Since starting Knight’s Rivals, they have won 5 out of the 7 Bo5s. They defeated HLE and made Gen.G sweat. But LYON are right there with them. They may have had a disappointing Summer Split, but they have roared into the Swiss Stage. A couple of fights go their way against Gen.G in game three, and they qualify for the Bracket Stage. Inspired has struggled to close out against Eastern teams.

However, Team Liquid’s victory should give them confidence. LYON has what it takes to beat any Eastern team. IG tends to struggle when Wei is thrown off his game. Inspired can do that with ease. If Wei falls behind, LYON may get their chance.
