The “Tsugumi Project” anime cast is official. The show’s X account revealed three main voice actors, giving fans their first look at who will bring the post-apocalyptic manga to life on screen.
Masaaki Mizunaka will voice Leon, Misaki Watada takes on the role of Tsugumi, and Haruki Ishiya rounds out the trio as Doudou. The announcement came alongside a voiced comic video previewing the performances of Mizunaka and Ishiya.
The “Tsugumi Project” Anime Cast And Their Roles
Leon, voiced by Mizunaka, is a French soldier of fortune who was falsely convicted and sent on a suicide mission into an irradiated Japan. According to the official reveal, he has one year to track down a weapon known only by the codename TORATSUGUMI in exchange for his freedom.
Watada plays Tsugumi, a half-human girl with bird-like features whose name gives the series its title. Ishiya voices Doudou, a fellow convict who once worked as an underground boxer before joining Leon on his mission.
The Project So Far
The anime adapts ippatu’s post-apocalyptic action manga, which ran in Kodansha’s “Weekly Young Magazine” from January 2021 to November 2023 and was collected into seven volumes. The series was also published in France by Ki-oon across three volumes.
ippatu’s work extends beyond the manga page. The creator contributed character designs to Mamoru Hosoda’s films “BELLE” and “Scarlet,” giving the artist a recognizable name among anime fans even before the “Tsugumi Project” adaptation was confirmed.
The manga’s story unfolds more than two centuries after a nuclear war devastated Japan, placing Leon’s search for TORATSUGUMI inside a ravaged landscape shaped by that catastrophe. No studio or director has been confirmed for the anime as of the cast announcement.
What’s Next For “Tsugumi Project”
No release date or season has been announced yet. Fans now have confirmed names for the three central roles and a brief audio preview to go on, with further production details expected to follow as the adaptation moves forward, according to Crunchyroll.
